Ok I probably should have started here 1st but I started to read some post to see if I wanted to join and got side tracked.
Anyway, My husband and I work w/ a rescue group. We take dogs froma high kill shelter and find them homes. Sometimes they take in 150 dogs a day and put down at least that many. We take many dogs off of doggie death row and find them forever homes. We will eventually be a foster home for emergency cases, long tem cases (either medical or needing training) and overflow (no room w/ our other fosters).
We currently have 2 chis. Baby has been w/ us for about 2 yrs. She was called Tiny b4 we got her and on her paperwork it stated that the daughter (who actually owned her) went to college and the parents said that Baby was too difficult to take care of. She was shaking so bad and then curled up into my husbands lap and then he was done. Originally she was supposed to be for his mom. She wanted a chi, but she wanted a baby and to teach it to go in a litter box. Long story short she could walk her up and down the steps (her knees) and we got her!!!! I always wanter her but I was living w/ my parents until my husband and I got married and my father was allergic. It has taken us almost 2 yrs to teach her how to play and I don't know if she will ever learn to fetch or play by herself. (I really don't like her 1st owners) But she is very happy and loves us so much.
Almost 4 wks ago I had Baby in her pouch and we stoped over at the rescue. We could stay long but I helped out by taking this little chi and tried to find her a home. She was so far up my neck and amost arounf it like astole but w/ her bonely little butt up in the air. It took me almost an hr to get her to put her butt down and not hold on w/ the claws (and they weren't cut so they were very long). ANyway by the time someone was a bit interested and then decided she wasn't for them I realized I was way too attached and in love. I almost cried. I have been doing this for almost 3 yrs and it was the 1st time I did that (I guess since Baby was to be my mother in laws but when she could keep her I was crying that I wanted her). Anyway we ended up taking her home. The 1st wk she was fixed, the 2nd she was treated for tapeworms and weighed 4.0 lbs and the next wk she got the vac. and weighed 4.8 lbs. It has taken a bitbut she now eats out of a bowl w/ a very little starter- chicken or something. And she is even starting to play and run around. She is still very scared and if you even say her name too loud she cowers. But Baby was also like that and it took time but she is so much better now and Mira will also get better as time goes on.
We will be adding to our family in a few months. My husband will be getting a reverse brindle boxer. He still isn't born yet but on the way.
