Samantha came to live with us a few months after our Greta passed away of kidney
failure in 2007.
We live in a small town and after the first freeze of ‘07 several feral looking mixes
showed up in town. We think they were from the same litter. Samantha was hanging out
around our house.
We weren’t sure if we wanted another dog because it was so painful loosing Greta. We
thought Samantha was an old male dog at first because she was in bad shape and she has
a little gray/white around her muzzle , but that’s just the way she is marked.
For about a week I would see her every other mourning or evening around our block.
Then my wife came and got me one morning. ( I work across the street from the house )
and said with tears in her eyes “That dog was lying in our yard in the asperdystera just
where Greta used to lay†She said she had tried to feed it but it just ran away. We had
seen one of our neighbors shoeing her away earlier and I imagine he wasn’t the only one.
We finally got her used to getting a free meal at our place but she still wouldn’t let us
approach her. I have a fenced lot at my business across the street and we moved the food
dish closer and closer to the back yard there until finally we got her back there. After that
it was no time until she accepted us. It turns out she was a she and only about six month
old according to the vet.
I don’t know what kind of mix she is but she has the best personality. She is very
submissive and affectionate with me and my wife and even now at three she is as playful
as a puppy. She like fetching balls and can catch a nerf baseball in her mouth tossed to
her from as far away as fifty feet! She is much more playful than Greta. Greta was much
more reserved even as a puppy. She loves other dogs and plays so well with them and
seems to know how to tone it down so that even very little dogs feel comfortable playing
with her. Greta couldn’t stand other dogs!
Samantha is much more reserved about strangers of the people variety. which is fine with
us because we need a good watch dog where we live.
This is my first post but I have enjoyed reading others for a while and have been very
impressed with some of the photography. I am not a photographer at all. Some of the
pictures here are really amazing!
