Hi everyone! I've been reading the forum for some time already and finally decided to join when I found out I was getting a puppy.I'm meeting my beagle puppy, Belly, next week. On my avatar (not sure if it's working) is a pic her breeder sent to me. Anyway, I have a question already:
1. I know I'm can't start real agility training with a pup until they're 6 months but is there some kind of game or excersize that can get her started in being used to agility early?
Thanks in advance!

Welcome! Congrats on your new pup! She is a real cutie! You must be soooo excited! :)

I think it is great that you are already planning on participating in agility with your new furpal. The best way to get a jump start on agility is to start with basic obedience training. In order to be successful in agility your pup will need to know how to follow your lead and obedience training is the best way to achieve this. In fact since your pup can't do "serious" obedience training until it she older that will be a great way for you two to bond and for her to be well socialized. Excessive jumping on pup's growing bones is not good so be sure to check with your vet and follow his recommendations.

Here are some hints to start her out on agility with. As long as you keep the jumping to extremely low heights & a very few repetitions you could start her out by laying a broom handle over a couple of shoe boxes, drape a sheet over a couple of chairs to imitate a tunnel or chute, use a hula hoop held very low for her to go thru, get a pc of wood (2"x4") and lay it on the ground and get her used to walking on it.

Best of luck with Belly! I know you will be having a super summer vacation with her! :)

Welcome! :) Your pup is so cute.. Belly is such a cute name! :p
I would also suggest you do basic obediance with her at first. However, you could get her used to a few agility exercises. If you have one of those kiddie tunnels you could use that to teach her how to go through the agility tunnel (at first, make the length of the tunnel quite short so it looks more inviting, then gradually lengthen it out). Also, if you have a ladder you can lay it flat on the ground and get her to walk over it. This will teach her to be aware of her rear-end, and teach her to walk nicely in a narrow space, as well as teaching her to think ahead. With a broom stick lay it on the ground and get her used to walking over it, then gradually raise it off the ground. I would suggest you don't do too much jumping with her as this could be detrimental to her health as her bones will still be growing.

Your puppy is so cute and I love the name Belly!!! Hope you have fun with her/he. I don't know much right now about agility, but when my puppy, Levi, gets old enough he will be doing some agility. Have fun!!

Belly is so adorable! You might want to also post your question in the training section for more responses.
