I went to the local shelter last week and saw the most ADORABLE little ball of fluff,a chinchilla kit.
I want him so badly!! :p
Does anybody know what chinchilla's eat and cages and stuff like that?

Chinchillas eat specialized chinchilla food, I feed Mazuri. I also give supplements and treats such as rose hips and they need hay every day.

They are not like owning a hampster or gerbil, the more exercise the better for these guys and a huge cage. This is where I got may cage, I have a Townhome one (30”w x 24”d x 36”h) and my chin still gets out at least 1 hour a day to run in my room (everything must be chin-proofed of course). They generally live to be about 15 years old, compared to a hampster who lives 2-4 years.

They also need dust baths in special dust (you have to make sure their fur never gets wet!). They need temps to be under 70 degrees at all times (make sure you have an air conditioner ;) )

Definitally not a pet to get on a whim (not that any pet should be), they are much more demanding and time consuming and expensive than my cat or any small animals that I've ever had. If you are still interested I'd check out the Chins-n-Quills forum, lots of good info there.

Hope that helps :)
