We have a 11 week Cav. King Charles. He is a a new addition to the family. We already have a 11 month old Cav King Charles. Both are males. The new guy is named Spencer. When we are home, Spencer is very good. He pees in his litter box when we ask him too. He pees in there by himself sometimes also by just walking over. We take him outside to poop or he also poops in the box.

However, when we leave for work or just for trips, Spencer always pees outside the box. Overnight, Spencer will have a puddle outside the box as well. Every morning at 6AM he cries and howls and wakes us up. When we get home from work, there is always a mess in his playpen area. My wife always comes home at lunch to check up on him and there is an accident.

Our first dog wasnt like this. How come this one is so well behaved when we are there and when we arent he has so many accidents?

Check out the website www.dogchannel.com -- I've found it very helpful. You should be able to do a search and find separation anxiety - make sure the spelling is correct or it won't pull up though. Good luck :)

I would suggest a crate, not a playpen area. The area is probably too big and it is a free time place to be, not really a training area. A crate provides a den and bed type place for him which will discourage him from having an accident if he can help it.
I am not sure that is so much a seperation anxiety problem as a house training problem but if you are worried about that put things in with him that have your scent, maybe a t-shirt you wore (one you don't mind have messed up a bit of course :) ) Also there are some products available that work well for some dogs. It plugs into an outlet like a room freshener but it puts out pheremones like a nursing mother dog would. It is supposed to be calming to the puppies, or any dog for that matter. It is something to try. Here's a link I found for it

It is called Comfort Zone. Vets carry a similar product as well.
