does anyone here have any experience with shelter/pound housing? If so i could use your help;

We are currently looking into building a new dog facility for the
dogs at the city pound.

I was wondering if everyone could tell me about the dogs housing and
runs as well as their play yards. There are funds already raised to
build, but they are limited.

I really need to know how big the indoor housing should be for 1 dog to be comfortable. they will have an outdoor run attached to this.

A description of your facility, size of indoor housing, outdoor runs
size, size of exercise/play yards, the pros and cons, and what would you
do differently to make it a happier place for the dogs and workers
would be appreciated

We are a small town so this will be an improvement to what we currently have it will be by no means 'big' facility. around 10 to 12 individual areas to hold dogs.

I dont know the exact measurements at our humane society that I volunteer at, I can get measurements for you later on in the week though.

What we have are 4 different wards. Each ward has approx 20 kennels in it. 10 on each side with a strip of concrete in the middle with a drainage ditch infront of every kennel.

Then, attached to every Ward on the outside are outdoor kennel runs. Each dog in each Ward gets rotated so they have day time out in the kennel. Each Ward has specific outdoor kennels that they are assigned so disease isn't spread.

We also have a newly built outdoor "play pen" Its massive though, its with a high fence, a pole in the center (for training purposes) and tons of "off leash" time for each dog that gets walked out there. Its a great spot for training as well. Great socialization pen as well.
This is built behind the shelter as well.

We are trying to fun to have Patented Kuranda Dog Beds in each dog kennel at the moment as well. Most have them for the dogs at the moment.

thanks the measurements would be great! the problem I think is: if we make the kennels too big then they will be messing in them. but if we make them an ok size then they will go out to their run to take care of business. but we dont want to make them too small (kennels) so that the dogs are uncomfortable.

we dont have anyone there except an AC officer thats out on calls and taking care of other things and a part-time worker in the am.

I'll try and get Measurements sometime on the weekend for you! :) and Post back to you!

I "believe" that their inside kennels are 4' wide and approx 6'-8' long. Most of them have movble dividers as well just incase they get in dogs that "need to go together" and they are a larger dog that need more space.
