I am at my wits end and thought I would ask for your opinion. Sorry so long.

My dog is a boxer mix who is almost 2 yrs old. He is a wonderful dog that we are crazy over. He's an inside dog who has the best dispostion and behavior, except for the last week or so. Since Friday evening he has been acting like a different dog. It's almost like someone came in and took my Rocky and left another dog in his place. We have a great schedule. Both of us work during the day, but I work close enough that I come home to take him out for about 30-40 min. He's then alone at home for 3 1/2 hrs. more. We spend the rest of the evening playing with him. Since Friday night, all he has done has been to pace all over the house like he's looking for something and crying. He whines and cries and keeps ringing the bell to go outside. Once out, he will just walk all over the place sniffing or smelling the air. What's wrong with him? This is our first time having a dog so we don't have a lot of experience.

Like I said we have had a great schedule so far. By 10 pm he is usually half asleep on the floor. I take him out 1 more time, then he almost knocks us over to get to the bed. Every so often he will wake up in the middle of the night to go out, but it's usually if he had to eat later than usual. Last night was completly different. I took him out at 10, then we came in to go to bed. He would not lay down. He spent the whole night coming into our room, pacing all over the floor, going back to the living room and ringing the bell. I took him out twice, but he only peed a small amount. This went on all night. I finally got up and spent the rest of the night on the couch. He would lay down beside me on the floor or in his chair for about 30 minutes and then start all over again with pacing and crying. I feel so tired this morning. I feel like my husband thinks it's my fault. He says that Rocky has me trained, but this is so unlike him. Do you have any ideas? I would really appreciate it. Again, sorry so long.

With any big change in behaviour like that my first port of call would be the vets to check for anything medical. He could well have an infection so I would get that looked at first.

I agree with taratippy. But I have a couple of questions :

1. Is he eating and drinking normally or that too changed ?
2. Have you changed anything in his diet, treats ...etc ?

Would different treats cause a dog to act odd?
I am not 100% sure nor did I hear of it. But, just like humans, some foods just don't sit well with some. I would take him to the vet.

Just out of curiosity, any changes in the environment ? Any of neighbours got a new pet ? Is Rocky neutered ?

Good luck ... hopefully nothing serious.
