Ok this is a link to a blog of one of Tosca's blogroll group known as Dogs With Blogs. The dogs all talk in the blogs and it is a blast. Well, the owner of this blog has sent in a DNA test for her dog Opie. So she is running a contest to see who guesses which breeds Opie is a mix of. When the results are sent to her she will announce a winner. I wanted to ask you all to help Tosca win, but I realize that would be unfair, so I am giving you guys the link. Have fun. Click on the survey and let's see who wins. If you don't have a blogspot account, you will have to enter anonymously, which means if you are right you can't win because you can't be identified. So consider either registering on blogspot or telling Tosca your answer so she can cheat. LOL. Nahhhhhhh Tosca would never do that. LOL.

Well the survey, if you take the time to look at it, only offers TWO breed choices for the mix. Primary and secondary.

Oh i do too. But what the heck. The woman rescued her dogs from a dumpster situation. She loves them with all her heart and now they seem to have a better life than half the kids in the world. So I kind of figure if she wants to do the test, it's kind of cute.

He's a Dopey Opie

Hi - I'm Opie's "Dogmom at DogsAyeView" -

I don't know exactly how the breed test works either. It was suggested by one of their vets as a possibility. They just launched it to the public a couple of weeks ago (March 8).

As I understand it, it tests for breed, not parentage. They verified the breed genes by mapping thousands of dogs in each of the verified breeds. Labs have a specific DNA cell structure that is different from Goldens, for example. So far, they've verified 38 of the more than 150 registered "pure" breeds.

They said it's similar to testing human DNA... without knowing the parents, the DNA can tell whether the person is white/black/asian... or male/female... etc. This test works the same way. It looks to match specific cell patterns to the already verified breed patterns.

Anyways... this is just for fun. It's not like I'm going to send him back to the park and abandon him if I don't like the answer...

:)

They're Back!

The DNA test results, that is!

Dogmom started another contest... there are four breeds in each of us. If you guess them correctly, she'll send you a package including our favorite things! (Well, things just like our favorite things... not exactly our favorite things themselves...)

Visit, vote and then check back on Tuesday, May 29, for the results!

:) Tosca, we expect you to have more than three guesses this time!
