This has been going on for a long time now, I know it...

The man next door to my apartment complex has several, and I mean several dogs in his yard. Each day there's at least 20 dogs in his yard at a time, no joke!

About 90% of them seem malnurished and thin, and I think I have even spotted the snout of a dog sticking out of a garbage can. The backyard is covered with phecies and is unhygenic for any animal to live in, let alone the poor dogs!

Today me and my friend Nick walked up to the man and spoke to him, but he would not let us talk to him inside. He assured us the dogs were properly cared for, but afterwards, when we saw him leave, we snuck into the backyard. I pulled some of the dogs aside while Nick kept the others occupied:

There were originally pictures, but someone PMed me about them being a little too graphic.

One had missing patches of fur, the other seemed to have a tumor on it's side.

The other thing is the man is very elderly and gets confused sometimes, one time he has even forgotten where he lives. I think he does not even know how many dogs he has, or the shape they are in.

I think that's the reason no one else has gone to the authorities, but last time a hoarder was busted in our part of town, the dogs were destroyed.

Even the healthy ones.

Honestly, those dogs NEED to be with someone that they can be cared for.

Call your local SPCA and figure out what is the best option for these dogs, maybe even try and find a Rescue group around your area that can help out.

Those dogs need OUT of there..

by the sounds of it, they may have Mange and that NEEDS to be treated!

I called the Animal Police from the other side of town, and they drove right here. I watched from my window and saw there were many more dogs than I had first thought.

As a reward, even though I insisted I didn't take it, the animal shelter offered me 1000$, a 250$ shop card for the nearest pet store, and they even offered me one of the dogs when I was there. I am expected to go to the shelter in about 15 minutes and help them find the dogs that need the most care, since I am in veternary school.

That's great...I'm glad they came to help those poor dogs!!!:( Tell them to donate the card to an animal shelter.:)

Wow! You did a great thing. Those poor dogs. I do hope they get fixed up and adopted out. I feel sorry for that old man. He probably didn't mean anything at all. It sounds like he has dementia or Altzheimer's. I hope he too will be taken care of.

You did an excellent job, and seeing your other post about looking for a dog, maybe you'll find one!! I wish you all of the luck, and I think you did the right thing :)

You can definitely call AC but I don't see any reason to call the police. The man obviously has some sort of dementia & needs help himself, not people to try to get him arrested.

No offense, but the welfare of a human comes before that of a dog. However, in this case there is a great chance of doing some good by getting the owner the help he needs himself & helping the animals out at the same time.

And when you call AC, let them know about the man's mental status so they can contact a social worker to accompany them & help him out as well.

On the same hand however AC would have been required to call the police as Animal creulty is an offense so either way the police would have been involved in the end no? Usually however if it is determined that the person who commits the offense is of ill health especially when elderly charges are rarely laid. My grandmother suffers from althemerizes and one time woke up and called the police because she didn't know where she was and thought she had been kidnapped and initially after they arrived they wanted to lay charges and a massive fine for what they thought was a false call until her condition was explained and the apologized and dropped all charges.

Also if you want to talk about the welfare of this man by removing the dogs his health wll greatly benefit from a clean enviroment and finically as well as now he will not have to spend what little money he was spending on feeding them to benefit himself.

I think in the end both parties will greatly benefit from your quick thinking as this man can move forward in life without the burden of trying to feed and pay for the massive amounts of dogs he had and the dogs can get a clean start as well.

So kudos to you:)

it turned out the man had 231 dogs, 48 of them were destroyed. The man is going through tests at a local hospital, and he was not arrested.

It was pretty gross. When we got into the house two of the dogs, a rottweiler mix and a (what seemed to be a) pitbull were fighting, and they were literally ripping eachother's limbs off.

There was a puppy I realy like, breed undeterminable. He is white with brown spots and has a severe growth under his eye, disabling his vision.

At least 60 diseased dogs were found in a cellar in the basement, the stench was so bad when we opened the basement door two of us fell backwards, including me.

However, I think some of the dogs won't even pull through the night. They were in pretty back condition, and one of the dogs had a fractured rip that was poking out of it's side. I feel realy bad for these dogs, and in my opinion, someone should've got there before hand. I have just rented this apartment and see no reason why the old tenants couldn't have done anything.

A smaller dog was literally gasping for breathe in it's cage, and there were two pomeranian puppies that didn't know what grass was because they had never been outside!
