Hi guys,

Rocky has been doing great ... or at least he was until it started to snow here. Ever since the snow stuck on the ground a week or so ago, he will still get excited over the idea of going outside, but once he get's to where he always does his business, or ANYWHERE outside after about 2 minutes, he just suddenly stops and stands there and refuses to move. Half the time, he won't go pee or poop, he just stands there, shivering. I can't bear to make him freeze for long so we take him inside after a few minutes of this. The OTHER half of the time, he'll not move, but finally WILL pee and/or poop. However, whether he goes to the bathroom outside or not, he ALWAYS poops in our hallway during the night. We have regulated his food and water intake strictly, and he STILL does this. I don't know where it's coming from! One night, he pooped a lot outside, I took him in, and in the morning, there was poop on the rug again!!!

Last night, I carried him to his favorite spot so he'd stay warm longer, and it worked, he sniffed around, peed and pooped, and I carried him back in. I was so happy! Then, this morning, I woke up and there was poop AND pee in the hallway, even though he hadn't eaten or drank any water since he came back inside. What do I do?

I'm wondering if you'll need to take him out every couple of hours like with a new puppy to get him used to going outside only to pee/poop. Then slowly extend the amount of time taking him out until he no longer does it in the house.

our cocker spaniel loves the snow but wont pee/poo ON it so we have to dig a trench for him.

my chis HATE being cold, vixie will bolt out do what she needs to then in, dodger however will sit ON my foot and refuse to move. Ruby likes the snow but takes time and gets cold fast then forgets shes supposed to be out there to pee...my routein...
Sweaters/clothing.

ive found since it started gettign cold a HUGE difference in their outside time when i put their extra layers on dodger will actually pee, vixie will run around like a lunatic and ruby has a blast...i still do have to dig a trench though so theres some grass for them, they hate peing on the snow if its over an inch lol.

in terms of pooping in the hall, take up the food earlier than you have been or put him on a feeding schedual and mabe look into eithe rcrate training him or putting him in a smaller room (ie bathroom) and get up halfway through the night to let him out untill e gets it...

back to step one is probably the best way.
