Stop playing with him when your hand is in the way? How about when he bites, you get up and go do something else...and playtime is over. When he doesn't touch you hard with his teeth, you stay and play. I wouldn't get a pup too riled up...or too excitable in play anyhow if you want a calmer dog.

Do a web search on BITE INHIBITION, and work on this with your pup.

A simple way to teach your puppy not to put teeth on you goes like this.

Get some small treats, little pieces of the regular food will do.

Feed the puppy a piece or two as you say, in a sweet tone of voice, "take it!".

Then close your hand over the rest of the food, letting the pup see it's still in your hand, and say, in the same tone of voice "Leave it!".

Wait until the puppy has not touched your hand for 5 seconds. Then immediately say "take it" and give the pup a piece of the food.

This teaches the puppy that he is not to touch when you say leave it. It works for most puppies very quickly.

Once the pup learns this, if he mouths you squeal OWWIE!! and say "Leave it!". Food reward with "take it" when the mouthing stops.

You will find more detailed info on your search on BITE INHIBITION.

Puppy class is a good idea as well, I always recommend people begin puppy training class no later than 16 weeks of age.

Good luck with your puppy. :D

if your going to play with him like that then hes proble going to bite you hand by mistake you could make a lound nose as if to scare him so he will be more care full, or you coud smack him lightly on the bum or say NO!. But it would only be by acedent so if you want to play tug-o-war i think you should buy a proper tug-o-war toy from the super market or any local pet shop.

Please do not smack your dog on the bum. Hitting a dog is never a good idea. The best way to eliminate a behavior is to remove the reinforcer for it....the payoff...what the dog is getting out of it which it likes. And giving the dog an acceptable alternative and rewarding for the dog engaging in that. Remember..any attention, good or bad is still attention. Some attention that we think is a detrement is a reinforcer to a dog and some, if too harsh will ruin your dog. So, if you stick consistantly to scientific learning practices, your pup, in time will grow out of this. It won't happen over night because this is a puppy and puppies do this for a while. Be consistant and have patience and learn all you can and you'll end up with a happy, well adusted, well mannered dog.

I agree with never hitting your dog, they are pack animals and don't hit each other, they don't understand it.
The rest above is good advice and do research, talk to a trainer and your vet. It will benefit both you and your pup.
