Hi everyone,

It has been a long time since I posted on this forum. Firstly, I must thank everyone who helped me with great knowledge and advice when I first received Kaspar (maltipoo) as a puppy. It has been almost 2 years now and Kaspar is full active, happy, into his toys but most of all happy to be hanging around my sisters older Pomeranian named Jube.

Kaspar and Jube are in door dogs and so far are well trained in most aspects. But recently we have noticed a massive massive landslide in characteristics with Kaspar..

A few examples are as follows:

- If Kaspar is on our sofa or im holding him, he will growl when Jube comes close. I put him down straight away or move him off the sofa as well to tell him its not cool. it still persists.

- Kaspar barks at everyone that he does not recognise until he gets their attention (usually if they give him their fist and he licks it then hes all fine again and throws like a ball or kong at the person lol).

- Kaspar was trained in a puppy school amongst a lot of different dogs and was also introduced to jube very early at probably the 4th to 5th week mark at home. All was fine but now when we take him for a walk, he is completely aggressive, barking and going nuts to the point that recently (the last straw) we were at a beach and he went crazy at another dog. He swung so awkardly and was reversing to the point he got out of his full body harness and dived and attacked the other dog..

My brother in law had to dive onto kaspar to stop him and kaspar bit him on the hand as well.

From then on, I have been too afraid to take him outside. I dont know how its changed, we thought we took all the right steps to condition and socialise him but it seems hes decided to go against everything...

I would love to know what I should be doing to solve this. Your assistance would be much appreciated!

Thanks in advance

Sounds like you'll need to hire a trainer. It's hard to tell without actually seeing the dog ourselves, whether Kaspar is being dog reactive or dog aggressive; that's a big difference because the training plan for a reactive dog is different than for an aggressive dog.

If you need help finding/choosing a trainer, I'm sure we can help with that!

Thanks so much for the response.

I will definitely start looking for a trainer. I am in Melbourne, Australia. If you do know of a great trainer here, please let me know.

Dog reactive or Dog aggressive. Good question indeed.

also when Kaspar and Jube play, it sometimes sounds as if kaspar is growling aggressively instead of for play, Although he is always the one taking control and teasing or annoying Jube.

Cheers!

Some dogs can sound pretty ferocious when they play, it's impossible to say that just because he SOUNDS aggressive he is aggressive. It's really important to know what aggression looks like in dog body language, versus play or even pushiness. That's where a pro trainer can help. :)
