Possibly a reaction? My JRT is 14 weeks today and had her first set of shots and deworming. We had them done around 3pm its now 7pm and she was shivering and lethargic and when you touch the site of the vac's she cries out. I know that is to be expected, but I have her sleeping on me wrapped up in a sweater and she is sleeping with out shivering. The vac's were done at a petco low cost clinic. Should I take her to the ER vet? If I need to I absolutely will but here they charge 195.00$ to just walk in the door, its crazy.

Can you call the emerg clinic and see what they say? This is not normal, not for any dog, and certainly not a JRT. JRTs are renown for their stoicness. 14 weeks is pretty late for first shots. Did they do a fecal first, or just deworm anyway? (my vets always do a fecal first)

They Just routinely wormed her because she was never wormed as a small puppy. I called the clinic and they would not give me anything just told me they cant say until I bring her in. This is terrible, I feel like the worse person in the world!

I would take her. This is not a normal reaction to shots. It might be nothing, but I would not risk it (and I am NOT the kind of person who runs off to the vet the moment something seems a little off)

Keep us updated. I would take her to the e-vet too. Even if it does turn out to be nothing, this seems very peculiar, and I think the peace of mind is worth it.

*update* Thank you to everyone who responded even though I am not a adament poster I am a lurker. I took Lola in and they basically said that it is a normal reaction if not slightly above normal to the vaccinations she had recieved and there is no way to tell which part of the vax she was sensitive to. They did nothing for her except benadryl and on yea charged me a beautiful sum of $289.03. Oh well a few bills will be late but its worth it to know that shes ok. Again thank you to everyone who replied!

I worked in a clinic for quite sometime and was going to say her reaction sounded pretty normal post-vaccination. Some dogs are more sensitive than others, but you actually want to see a little bit of a mild reaction after vaccines...it lets you know the body is responding.

Next time, give her 1/2 a benadryl before the next vaccine.

wow no dog I have ever had has done that! Or any pup I have bred. Or really any of my friends dogs... That to me sounds a lot more than a mild reaction (shivering, lethargic and crying out in pain) I don't think I would do all the shots at one again..poor dog. I just took the whippets to have their shots, and no reaction what so ever in anyway.

Its so hard when you can't talk to them.

All I can say is that NO pup should be bought without their first shots and a worm check !!! I've never had a pup with worms !

Since she's 14 weeks old, she may only need the one set of shots. She is probably old enough for that to work. If she were mine, I would do titers in a few weeks to see if she has immunity; if she does, no further shots are needed.

Unless vaccintations are diff in the US than here, one set doesn't provide immunity, first time off. The immune system gets 'primed' by the series, then after that ever year (or every three years) or titers.
