Hello, newbie here with questions

Hello everyone, I am new to the forum and new to the dog world. Currently seeking advise from the knowledgeable dog keepers.

Got a new 12 weeks old puppy yesterday, did some research before and still have some questions I am not able to find answers to

The puppy just sits there and chill, doesn't walk or do much. Is the puppy just adjusting to the environment?

The puppy isn't eating much at all or drinking water, will this also caused by the new environment? Also, whenever I feed the puppy and he doesn't eat, should I put away the food or just leave it there until he eats them?
Puppy not eating kinda worries me a bit

A lot of it could be from the stress of leaving his littermates and what he was familiar with. It could take a few days or a week. If he isn't drinking water, that is not good. Try putting a little chicken broth on his food or a little tiny bit of parmessan cheese, just a little sprinkle. It's smelly and usually helps a dog eat. If he doesn't eat in about 20 minutes, I'd put the bowl up and try again in a couple of hours.

I agree with Grammy to get him into a vet for a puppy exam asap. This should be done anyhow with a new pup.....I always arranged for this first appointment before I even got my new pups so they could go in the next day or so. You can talk over your concerns with the vet.

Yes, he does need an exam just to check over all health, and to be checked for worms as well. He might even need another vaccination now (typically at 8 wks, 12 wks, and 16 wks).

Puppies do need time to adjust, some more than others and often depending upon the amount of socialization they received as babies. Like Doberluv said, put it down, then pick it up and try again in a few hours. Don't wait all day, just a few hours to give him the chance to eat. Depending upon his breed, you might want to soak his kibble in warm water for a bit first.

He is drinking water and eating, just not a lot, maybe eat about 15 to 20 pellets and he'll stop.

All his shots are up to date and he just had a rabies vaccination. I will definitely take him to the vet to check on his health.

Hi Pulirules... nice to see a Puli owner here. I've shown them, board them and am familiar with a very well known breeder in the states. She was a great help in giving specific info on the breed. They can be very sensitive dogs! I am guessing, with the change in environment, going from breeder to you now being the one to handle him, you'll see a change in his appetite once he's settled in and is bonding with you. (It's only been a day.) I'm sure your purchase agreement gave you 48 to 72 hrs to do your wellness exam with your vet. So, as Spiritus mentioned, make sure you do not let that expire before going. If you were to find a problem, your breeder is often no longer responsible after that date. Aside from the usual worming and vaccines, you'll want to have heart checked, the puppies bite, eyesight, ect. To make sure everything's in good working order! As Doberluv said, a little parmesan sprinkled on works great! Nice to meet a Puli owner!!

Some update on the little fella...

It has only been 2 days, he is definitely a destroyer, a lot of energy, eats, drinks and go to bathroom like it suppose to.

However, when he does his thing, I get ignored most of time. It doesn't seem like he will be attach to me, I guess that'll take some time. I am reading up on the forum and doing research on potty train. Doing my best.

It takes some time, for some dogs and owners, a short time, for some, a longer time. But it will come.

Glad to hear he's settling in alright. In no time, he should be very attached to you (Very loyal dogs) I had to hide my Puli owner in the audience, whenever showing her dog, as the dog would become quite upset when she couldn't get to mom, after not seeing her for severals days before each show. Their "singing" bark leaves something to be desired! Good luck with that potty training!

Took him to the vet yesterday. Dr told me he can't get any healthier than how he is right now, which was very good to hear. All the vaccinations were done by the previous owner and everything is on track.

When I was in college, me and my roommate together had
4 cats, 1 rabbit, 1 turtle, 5 fish, 1 geico and a lot of fleas

I own the cat and he owns everything else. Took us awhile to get rid of the fleas

Holy cow! Yup...the fleas had to go. LOL. I only have fish and 4 dogs now. But when my kids were growing up, we had pet rats, cats, reptiles, dogs and horses.

Here's my aquarium. Try not to notice the algae on the glass that I missed when cleaning. LOL.
