Welcome to Chaz!

OMG... I love OEBs! They are just so stunning, and so much healthier than English Bulldogs. Your pups are adorable.

Just wondering, what is the difference between an "Olde English Bulldogge" and an "Old English Bulldog"? I thought Old English Bulldogs were extinct, and the Olde is supposed to be a reincarnation of them?

The Olde English Bulldogge

Thanks for your interest in the OEB! Yes, they are remarkable dogs!

The original bull/bear baiting dog of England was just called a Bulldog. They were bred not to a standard but to the type of "baiting" the owner/breeders were involved in, so they tended to have several different "looks". The only real consistancy was the strong jaws, short turned up muzzle and the low and powerful body. Here is a link that may explain the Olde English Bulldogge better than I can http://www.leavittbulldogassociation.com/History.htm

The man who originally tried to standardize the breed - David Leavitt, and to as close as he could recreate the Bulldog of old England, chose the name Olde English Bulldogge. Due to some sort of conflict with what breeders were doing to his line of dogs, changed the name of his line to Leavitt Bulldogs. Confused yet!! Trust me, so am I and I researched this breed for over a year before purchasing our first one. I love them and do not regret taking the plunge, they are so much healthier than our EB but still with the same loving, goofball personality!!

Take care,
Bev Hale
