Hi im Elizabeth and I live in Alabama with my 2 best friends who have a 7month old cat they call Walter. Yesterday, I got a new puppy. I estimate her age to be around 5-6wks old and I think she might be a Blue Heeler/ Choc. Lab mix. I found her wondering around the woods (Jasper) of Alabama with her mom.
The mama dog was clearly a Blue Heeler and a Stray.
Me being a sucker for helping animals... couldnt help but save this puppy. She, Casper, was covered in countless ticks that I spent 3 hrs picking off.

She has now had a bath and she has a very healthy appetite! Im in the process of paper training her. And as soon as I get my paycheck ima take her to the Vet to be wormed and checked for Lime disease.
Shes quite a baby... she woke me up at 5am this morning just wanting to play! lol its been a while since ive had a puppy this little. Walter the cat seems to really like Casper and Casper... well, follows Walter around and they seem to be good friends.

Casper is a Chocolaty Brown color with a white chest and paws that have black spotting. Though shes little... her face looks just like a Lab.

Well thats Casper!!

Casper and Walter...

Sleeping!

Welcome, and I also am wondering about the mother and whether this pup is actually weaned. It's great you took the puppy in, in any case.

Oh I forgot to mention, the mom dog was taken in by a neighbor who I guess was also holding another one of her puppies, a black one. Didnt realize I didnt mention that before, my bad.
The next time im near that area ill stop and get pics of the mama dog and maybe the other puppy.

Im not completely sure if she was fully weaned but she has no problem eating solid puppy chow. Shes already memorized where her food and water is.
Shes also very active! today I caught her running around the house chasing Walter and barking!! lol I was trying to nap while they were at play.
Ill try to get more pics later.

Haha! if only Obama would join this forum! ;)

Nah.. Walters just a Bug. lol Walters quite interesting, hes bigger than Casper and I think he forgets his size sometimes cause he'll do a run and tumble and tackle Casper who doesnt really fight back yet. lol

So.. funny scare last night.... Casper really had me going!
I said before that Casper prefers to sleep on her back.. well last night she was sleeping when I climbed into bed and I pet her but she didnt move! she didnt even kick a leg! I picked her up and she was limp!! I started to freak when she woke up all startled!!
I guess she was in a very deep sleep! had me scared! haha.

I really need to find the camera for moments like these! The way she sleeps is the cutest ever!

It is a nice area, very pretty and still quite rural... in a good way. I grew up about 30 miles outside of Huntsville, and moved to Birmingham for college and stayed there until I moved to TX. Now I drive through T'town every year when I come back home, so I'm starting to get to know west Alabama a little bit better.

You're brave getting a puppy when you're expecting a baby! When are you due? I hope you have plans to really work hard on training the puppy before the baby comes, because you'll definately need him to be spot-on with his housemanners!

Its my first time in Bama all together and im quite surprised at how nice it is!

I have plenty of time to train Casper before the baby comes, im not Due till around Dec. 16th.
Ive wanted to get a dog for a while now but I wasnt really trying to find one. My mom once told me if your meant to have a Dog it will come to you... its so true. I figure now is the best time to get one anyway cause im not to big or tired to keep up with training her yet and she'll be a good 8 months old before the baby comes so she'll be of age that I could focus on the baby.

Honestly I really never wanted a Lab (I prefer Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, ect.) but from what ive heard Labs are great at excepting new babies so this couldnt have worked out better!

I have confidence that she'll be a good dog when the baby does come. Plus I think with the right training and discipline any dog can except any "newness" to the family (I speak from experience).
