Hi everyone!

I'm so excited to be here. My name is JuBee (it's a nickname) and I'm going to be blessed with bringing home my pure bred 3 month old shih tzu puppy who I have named "Boba" (yes like the drink) next Labor Day weekend. I've read many things on how to prepare for a new puppy at home but if anyone has any specific and important information that they would like to give me please let me know! My bf is not to fond about these forums because he probably thinks that the puppy will get more attention than he will now.. (sigh) can you believe that?!?!

If there are some of you who really know the breed well, please do share important facts to me that I should know about. I'm pretty sure as time goes by I'll have plenty of questions to ask but for right now I just wanted to greet everyone here.

Of course I'll be taking MILLIONS of pics once I get him home next weekend. I am so excited.. and I just can't hide it.. hehe :D

Thanks everyone!

Awww, shih tzus are precious! Personal experience speaking when I say, prepare your home as though you were bringing home a 2 year old child. Pick up everying that they might be able to fit in their mouths...if it fits, in it will go. Also, be vigilant about electric chords, ya don't want a fried baby...lastly, research research research...You'll get lots of wonderful advice here, a lot of these members really know their stuff when it comes to our hairy babies. Good luck, and congrats on your new baby!!

Isn't amazing how they can get the idea that such a cute little furball will be stealing all the attention away from them????? OK, I'll 'fess up - he must have had a talk with my hubby!:D

Welcome! You'll going to fit in with us quite well! And we are going to hold you to your promise of lots of pictures!:)

Welcome JuBee and Buba!

I have a little Shih tzu X who I love dearly...if I could go back though, I would have socialized her much more and known about NILIF from the beginning. My little girl has a very dominant personality and would take over the house (and the entire world...and the entire universe...) if given the opportunity :p. I've heard this from other Shih tzu owners as well. I love the breed though, my girl is so full of personality and has the funniest little quirks :D...good choice!

I can't wait to see pics of the little guy, you must be unbelievably excited!

Thanks to everyone's warm greetings. I am truly happy to be part of such a network where people welcome you with open arms. And yes I will supply pics as soon as I get him next weekend.

I got a chance to visit Boba yesterday night and I wish I could take him home right there and then. I visit him ever so often at the breeder's just playing with him and for him to get to know me and 'feel' my presence. Those little melting eyes of his and his cute wagging tail made me not want to let go, but the reason I couldn't take him home from the breeder's was because we were still in the middle of moving to our new house. The place is chaotic with boxes still unpacked and people installing things left and right. It would not have been a good choice to make the puppy go through that mess so that's why I picked next weekend because it gives me time to get everything settled and calmed down. I cannot wait!!! I am so anxious that I've already picked out things from the store on what to get him - right down to the color of each item.

I promise about the pictures. And about the bf - Paul visited Boba with me last night and I think he's going to get more attached than me. Last night he got to hold him first, and I almost had to beg him to give me a chance to hold him, lol :p . I know both of us will love Boba so much.

I CANNOT WAIT!!!!

Okay - so I finally got Boba yesterday night and I haven't had much sleep at all. I know this is common and am willing to do this every day/night if I have to.

After the car ride home, we stayed outside for awhile to see if he would go potty. He didn't. Instead he just sat there and looked at me. (by the way he hates his collar/leash - but hoping he would get used to it later on?)

But right when he entered the home, he sniffed, happily greeted the other roommates, and went on the floor not once, not twice, but three times!! I was already expecting a few accidents to happen so to me it wasn't a suprise.

As the night went on, he was exploring. I had to watch him on his every move - LIKE A HAWK! But he didn't cause too much trouble at all. I fed him dinner, he watched tv with us, tried to jump at the person inside the TV, and barked a few times. I took him out every hour on the hour to see if he would go potty, took him out after he ate, took him out after I played with him, took him out before he went to bed then he finally went! I put him in his crate after that he slept like a baby. He actually LOVES his crate! I woke up at 3 to take him outside, but he didn't go. Went back to sleep, took him out again at 6 in the morning and finally he went. So he held it for about 6 hours! Is that normal for a 3 month old puppy?

Here are my concerns: I heard that puppies need to go to the bathroom a lot. But he only went twice in an 11 hour period?

He absolutely hates his collar and leash - will he get used to it? He always tugs and pushes and bites, I keep telling him "NO" but he'll sit there for awhile then repeat. I finally had to take him off the leash and he seems to be doing fine staying by my side and not going all over the place.

He's up to date with all his shots so can I take him to a dog park? dog beach? places with other pets already?

Being that he's mostly with white coat, he gets dirty really easily. I was planning on giving him a bath today, but heard that I shouldn't give puppies baths often?

I was very surprised of how well Boba adapted to his new home. He was happy, playful, and enjoying our company. I am so lucky.

Thanks so much for your thoughts!

PS - PICS ARE COMING SOON! I just have to upload them!
