Just thought I'd introduce myself. I'm Meagan. My dog is Vega, a minurature rat terrier/mixed terrier mix. Product of a 4H project, I paid too much for her, she was too young (6weeks), I didn't need a dog, I hadn't planned on a dog, I didnt want a small dog, but I fell in love and she's been wonderful! (horrible, I know, it was very spontaneous and I discourge it but like I said, she's been wonderful and a welcome addition to our family). She is almost a year old now. Biggest problems are submissive/fearful problems (please see my post in the training section), training (just finished a puppy class and she's doing better but still has some problems with a lot of commands, but we're working on it), and destruction (very few dogs DONT have that on their list of "vices", just something you have to live with when you have a dog!). Other pets I have are 2 cats (diesel and static), a snake (drake), and a 125 freshwater fish tank. I have a 1 1/2 year old daughter and I am married to a wonderfuly understanding man who doesnt really care for Vega but pretends he does for me :)
I look forward to meeting all of you and listening to your advice. Who knows maybe I will be able to offer some too!
Meagan

Welcome Meagan. Sounds like Vega can be a handful but I bet she steals your heart away. I know one day your hubby will come around. Maybe once she's fully trained, he will see how much joy Vega brings.

I agree, he's warmed up to her a little already. He's just not much of a dog person to begin with (he's the cat's "daddy") but I am and I intend to get more once we get an acreage with lots of run room (but I've made up my mind no more little dogs, I am deffinatly a person who thinks the bigger the better :) ) so I think he'll get used to her. I think part of the reason he's not so attatched to her was I got her when he was deployed in Iraq and he's only been around her for 2 months wereas I've had her since last august.

Hi and Welcome! Probably a stupid question (I'm good at those!) but what is a 4H project? Looking forward to seeing photos of Vega and hearing more about her.

Hi 4-H is a youth program where they do everything from art projects, agracultural projects, horse competitions, sewing, etc... and they are to do a big independant project every year. I'm almost certain the project HAS to be breeding something but I could be wrong, maybe thats just a favorable choice. Theres a lot of guinea pigs, hampsters, mice, and the occational (usually 2-ish) dog or cat litter that is looking for homes at the fairs, which is quite a common place for them to be sold or given away at. Not something I agree with, I think there's enough inexperianced people breeding thigns out there, but like I said, however stupid I may have been to get her I fell in love with her just the same! :)
I'm working on a picture as we speak, look forward to boasting about her! ps she did the funniest thing today, she loves to play with our 2 cats and they play "tag" all the time and the kitten somehow ended up on her back and she just walked around with him lying across her! it was cute, wish I had had my camera!
