Yeah Hannah's probably just a wierdo :D. Yeah she does have a lot of muscle on her, she has started to fill out more lately though that she has started getting around 2 years old.

IIRC, Virgo was around 25-ish? at the shoulder and she was quite tall. There are random monster labs out there.
I have to agree. Considering most field bred labs are not bred for conformation it is quite possible she is pure. She looks pure to me. We have a lab who is 29 inches at the shoulders. He is a big boy!

I wouldnt worry too much. The only thing I would worry about is her joints. I would definatly keep her on Glucosamine and Chondroitin suppliments.

she just looks like a field-bred lab to me. she's beautiful. i prefer the thinner, lankier labs, though.

the cocker we had when i was growing up was humongous. he was like 4" taller than the max for a cocker (which is a LOT). he was a little overweight but would have been a solid 45 pounds at a good weight for him. that's as much as my pit bull! his parents were both within the standard, and aside from being jumbo, he looked exactly like a cocker spaniel.

She is very tall and thin. No offense, but I can't really say I'm a "fan" of field - type labs, while at the same time, I cringe when I see an English lab...much moreso that when I see a field-bred, actually.

The fact that she has AKC papers doesn't actually mean much. Someone was able to register two cats as "golden retrievers" with the AKC.

She looks pure to me :) She's just a monster Lab :p

I just wanted to correct the American & English terms ... American Labs are from America and English are from England. That's it :) The dogs bred for show are bench Labs, and the dogs bred for the field are field Labs. Dogs bred for pets are pet-bred. :)
English or American?

How can you tell which one's which? I know it's a silly question, but I have no clue what Jester is (besides your run-of-the-mill black lab). Is there an easier way to tell besides teaching him to talk and listening for a British accent? :)

Yeah we already have her on Glucosamine because she is already starting to show problems with her one hip (she's almost 2).

She is gorgeous no matter what, she's just a tall lab girl I think :) I also think the slimmer, lankier labs are prettier than the big stocky ones. just think of her as a lab supermodel... tall and thin with shiny hair :D

labrador american size?

i breed labradors for more then 35 years .. recently took home to france a labrador from USA .. we have labs with all english pedigrees .. i had a kennel aswell in UK registered!
but this dog is not much bigger then ours! i dont think there are supposed to be different types: we only have one type to look at: the standard of the dog!
if you can mail me a copy of his pedigree i can probably find out why yours is a bit bigger .. as some dogs do tend to give a higher size!
and if any doubt about the pedigree being correct .. nowadays a lot of studdogs are dna tested s so it is quite easy to check if it is realy a decendant of the dog named on your pedigree!

i know of somebody whos springer had a litter the same time as her sons springer, whereas hers were pure his were cross with a local collie so she just registered extra puppies with her litter and sold his with papers as purebred. I was more than angry i can tell yopu.

She looks like a field bred lab to me. We had a massive field bred dog when I was younger. He was a great retriever and was bought for hunting purposes. I like the look of a well bred field lab better than bench labs but probably just because I grew up with them. They look athletic whereas some of the bench labs look a bit rotund. I know someone with a field x show lab cross and he's gorgeous. A nice happy medium lol.

When I last took Alexa to the vet, there was a huuuuuuuuugeeeee lab there. Must have been at least 30" at the shoulder. And he was purebred pedigreed.

Maybe it's just a funny gene.

This is what the AKC standard says...
Size--The height at the withers for a dog is 22½ to 24½ inches; for a bitch is 21½ to 23½ inches. Any variance greater than ½ inch above or below these heights is a disqualification. Approximate weight of dogs and bitches in working condition: dogs 65 to 80 pounds; bitches 55 to 70 pounds.
