They can also be known as Queensland Heelers (just to make everything that much mroe confusing!) ;)
And to make things even more confusing, they have two different names here in rural Texas. The blue ones are called Blue Heelers. The red ones are Red Heelers. It's funny: they're basically treated as seperate breeds. I often see ads in the paper for "Red Heeler/Blue Heeler mix puppies for sale". If you say you have an Australian Cattle Dog, nobody around here will know what you're talking about.

They are also known as red or blue Heelers in Okla also, you will never see an ad in the paper for "austrailian cattle dogs"

Heh, and here we have "queensland blue" and "queensland red" heelers. >.< Never seen a breed with so many alternative names. Border Collies are generally Border Collies, no matter what.. And I have never seen an ad for a "Continential Toy Spaniel" - they're always Paps or Phalenes.

They're just called Cattle Dogs here, in Australia (or Blue Heelers, if they are blue). They're very energetic dogs. When I was younger my friend had a cattle dog called Paddy and whenever I went over to her house Paddy would always take me by the wrist and lead me around the house! His jaws were really strong, too!

Here's my Mason...He's a great dog; when he wants to be. :)

His coat makes me think he has some Kelpie in him.

He definitely has kelpi in him, IMO. I have an older friend that owns a kelpie, and yours and his dog are almost identical.

When TAVS first joined, I also thought Mason was a Kelpie mix. :)

Do you have a pic of your friend's dog? I'd love to see it, the Kelpie is another favorite breed of mine.:D

I agree, I think Mason has some Kelpie in him. I used to have a Kelpie x Rottweiler. The Kelpie is a pretty popular dog in Australia, especially as a working dog, since they have a lot of energy and drive. If you want to adopt a purebred Kelpie here (eg from the RSPCA) you actually have to get the height of your fence checked!
