That's what laptops are for GO!
No because laptops screens are horribly reflective and hard to see in the sun. Plus the battery life is only two hours long on mine.

Plus I like the feel of a book in my hand. You don't get that with a computer. The only benefit with a computer is being able to search for words without having to consult the glossary then skim that page.

Maybe they should start having them use paper back books instead of the hard cover ones. I noticed that my sons college books are paperbacks. I feel so bad for kids having to carry the heavy backpacks. It can't be good for them.

I know that I went to school at one time in my life too, but I SWEAR I don't remember having such heavy back packs! I don't remember bringing so many books home all the time........I don't know, perhaps I just blocked it out!

I just helped my 8 & 11 year old get ready for the bus and MAN they put on the back packs and staggered a step backwards LITTERALLY! Then I watched them go out and get on the bus and it was NOT easy to get up the bus steps packing all the extra weight!

And THIS is a monday morning when there wasn't much if ANY homework on friday.

*sigh* It's hard being a kid! LOL
Hehe, i can relate to that. I have four classes each term and last term my backpack felt like it weighed more than i did. I didnt even have books in all classes, but for those that didnt have books, i needed a binder. My back still hurts from carrying all that stuff. Most my classes this term dont require books so i carry an over-the-shoulder bag, not as heavy, thankfully. :D

My books in college (sans my Biochemistry and Microbiology books) are all paper back.

In 10th - 12th grade in high school though we were checked out a home set of books and we would use a class set when we actually opened the books (I think I actually used the class set maybe twice in all of my classes. Not per class, just out of all of them. Once in biology and once in chemistry). We had our own books for Spanish but those were paper back and very small (only had worksheets in them).

My mom harassed the school into giving me two sets - one for home and one to hang out in the classroom. Man did that make my life easier. It could have been quite a bit easier if I hadn't had a locker on, oh, the second floor.. far away from any of my classes... when I didn't actually have a class on the second floor.

It makes me wonder if the people handing out locker assignments are malicious, too fed up with sorting out schedules to give a ****, or just *that* stupid with the number of kids I know who can't even use their lockers because they're so far out of the way and there are only a few minutes between classes.. and if you're late for lunch you end up waiting in lines long enough that when you finally get your food you end up eating it in class instead of the cafeteria because the bell has already rung. There's just no time to go to your locker, and so then most of us end up carrying 40lbs of books around all day. And it's not like you can just leave your backpack in class or something... because then everything you own gets stolen.

Thank God a lot of textbook companies have the books available online.

And thank God for study halls too--last year I didn't have one so my backpack was 30+ pounds every night. At least with a study hall I'm able to get most, if not all, of my homework done so I don't have to bring it all home.

It is insane though... I would frequently end up deciding to just not do some of my homework, just so I wouldn't have to lug yet another book home.
