My boyfriend and I of 4 years broke up tonight, and he is keeping Hugo

I am so heartbroken I don't know what to do. For my boyfriend and Hugo.. I have become so attached to him, I am just a wreck.

Ugh. Has anyone else gone through this. I want to keep seeing Hugo but I don't want to not be able to move on. I am so sad... my heart is just broken

Is he keeping Hugo because it's his dog? If this is the decision you've made, I think it would be best not to see Hugo. It will be difficult in the beginning, but if you have to move on with your life, this will only hold you back. I'm so sorry and feel bad for you. We're here to listen and help you through this.

we bought hugo together last month

he lives at my boyfriends because he has more space and i already have a dog in my small apartment. I was going to move in there, we had all these plans...
now they are all gone and Hugo is staying with him.

This is so horrible God, why does this have to happen to me!!!

Violet, I know it must be hard when a relationship ends after 4 years, I dont know your circumstances but maybe this is just a fight and you can patch things up?As far as Hugo, Whos name is on the contract?

It is hard, but if there is no chance of you getting back together, it would be best not to see him.

You need to do what is best for you AND hugo. Would he be happier with you or your boyfriend?

Aw, I'm so sorry! I've been in the same situation before, it's not an easy one. If you and your ex are on an amicable split then I can't see why couldn't visit Hugo. My situation was different and I needed to keep away, it wasn't a safe environment for me.

Sorry to hear about your split. I bet you miss Hugo awfully.

Did your boyfriend accept any money from you to buy Hugo? And then a few weeks later break up with you?
You said you bought him together........did you contribute any money?

If you did, I would insist him repaying that amount. Other than that cut your losses and move on. It is not worth spending energy on someone that plays with your emotions like that.

this is so tough to deal with. I want to be friends with my boyfriend maybe a few months down the road.. so I will have to see.

I could probably get him to give Hugo to me but, he loves the dog so much and it took alot for him to get this dog because his other dog was killed by a cougar and he found the remains in his back yard , in winter so it was really awful.

I want him to have someone to lean on because hes really sad too about breaking up. I have my Zac, so I think its best he has Hugo.
Maybe I can have split custody of him in a month or two.. i dont know

He promised me a puppy if he studs Hugo later. I hope that I can get one.

If you break up but remain friends theres no reason why you cant still have access to Hugo.I`ve been through the excact same thing but opposite,I was the boyfriend who kept the dog[because she was my dog]but we stayed on good terms and she sees plenty of her.Lena[my dog] and Tamsin[my ex] have such a special bond I would never want to deny one access to the other.Tamsin even has Lena stay over sometimes and she`s one of very few people I would trust to leave her with.It`s not the end of your and Hugos friendship yet,if you can stay friends with your ex and he`s a reasonable guy.Hope it works out for you.
