I am trying the healthwise food on my dogs and puppies. Ingredients look good, I like the protein and fat %'s, we'll see how they do. I'll report back when I have something to report or in a couple of weeks...

I remember now why I won't feed Wellness I forgot that one of my puppies had chronic urine crystals and UTI's (male puppy!) until it was taken off that food. Of course, I had to battle w/ the vet about getting them to change foods...but once they did, the problem has never come back. The puppy was obsessively drinking water, peeing everywhere and had crystals (don't remember what kind). So I guess I won't be trying that food again. Glad I remembered that!

We've found it among my clients to be middle of the road kinda hit or miss for dogs. Did yield super high success rates no super low and there wasn't any real significant improvement on it as people saw on the Acana foods.

Go for it though, never hurts to try and every dog is an individual!

It certainly is priced nicely among similar ingredient competitors. I am not trying to be a cheapskate, but try to find the best foods to feed while still being reasonable on what I am willing to spend. We'll see how they do. I was ready to buy a bag of NV Prairie Chicken when I saw this and remembered a recent thread about it...and actually, it had a better "use by" date on it...I pay close attention to that, too...I do not like to feed a food that you know has been sitting around for six months...

The recent Nature's Variety recall was only on the raw medallions, so the dry foods are safe. In fact they just moved their kibble plant and updated their proceedures to an even higher safety rating. ETA: Misread that! oops! Sorry! I work at a small boutique style food store and the suppliers must send it so it has at least a year best before, so if it was getting close it's been sitting a while.

If this food doesn't work, see if you can get Acana near you. The ingredients are fabulous and they have both grain free (All life stages) and grain inclusive (life stages and in case you're on the fence about grain free). Great foods made in Canada out of Canadian ingredients and pretty decently priced for such a high end food. Champion Petfoods | ACANA

Hmm...may have to put ACANA on my "good foods list" for my puppy packet. I don't do grain free, my dogs simply don't do well on over ~28% protein.

Thank you, suggestions for foods for my "list" are always welcome. My criteria is 22-28% protein, around 15% fat, no wheat, soy, or corn, of course. I like to vary protein sources as well.

Acana is a great food, we were feeding it until it became scarce around here.

Revy's breeder feeds Fromm and has excellent results with it. :)

I love Acana Provincials... it's probably my fave dry food! :)

For the ingredients, and the calories it provides, and the meat content, I honestly think your dollar COULD go further with a grain-free food. Healthwise is a good food, don't get me wrong. Acana is pretty reasonably priced for the amazing quality. It has very high meat content, high quality/free range/organic ingredients, and every formula contains wild-caught fish for really nice coat. You could even split Healthwise with Acana or another grain-free food if cost is a concern.
