he keeps jumping on furniture

my young husky (sky) keeps jumping up on the furniture when he gets excited, like for instance he just came upstairs into myroom when i was doing work, i pet him, and then i noticed he made off with a sock from my hamper...i chased him downstairs cuz he'll tear socks apart, as soon as i got downstairs he ran and jumped on the couch and layed down on it...its the 4th time today hes gone on the furniture and i dont understand why all of a sudden, we were doing a good job keeping him off for about a month now and suddenly he has been jumping on it.

anyone have any ideas why or how to get him to stop? ive been trying the normal 'no' and he just looks at me...then when i approach him he jumps off, i understand that hes just full of energy but i really wish he wouldnt do this

Hi Brian,
it looks to me like he's feeling lonely for you when you're not paying any attention to him, and you're busy with workin around the house. He know's that jumping on the furniture gets your attention big time, and grabbing an artricle of your clothing really gets your attention, which is what he was looking for.
the next time he does these things, try saying OFF! and taking him by the collar( but show no anger or emotion ) and putting him in a room by himself for a while.
Do this each time he jumps on the furniture. I hope this helps you.

I first suggest teaching your dog the 'leave it' command. Do a search and many ideas on how to teach this will pop up.

Then I suggest teaching your dog the 'off' command so that he no longer jumps on the furniture (or if he does, a simple "off" will get him off right away). Many people have taught their dogs to not get on the furniture at all (I am not one of those people, so hopefully someone will come alone and help with that).

Sometimes it just comes down to basics. Maybe you should do obedience training every days. Maybe your dog has too much energy and is not getting enough physical or mental stimulation or maybe he just wants some attention.

well what happens is that he jumps up on the furniture when he gets into extreme energy mode...and he like the socks cuz they must remind him of his soft chew toys (for some reason my mom decided it was a good idea to take them away after talking to a 'trainer' for about 20 minutes)

i also found out the underlying reason as to why he is jumpin on the furniture, my brother for some dumb reason decided to pick up the dog and sit with him on the couch, pretty much showing the dog 'this is ok' in the dog's eyes....so now that i found the root of my problems, i have to address both of them with both the dog, and my family lol

i dont know whats more work, training the dog or the family...atleast the dog listens to the advice i give and the words isay lol
