After about 30 years or so of not being on a 2 wheel bike I bought a Mongoose off of Craigslist. I had been wanting to get a bike for a while now and want to take Lola with me when I am riding. We can ride to the dog park which is 12 miles away and this might be a cool way to get there. After we get their I would have had my exercise and when we get there she can have her exercise. In addition we have a bike trail that is paved near where I live that has to be 20 or so miles long so there are a lot of places to go around here.

Anyway just looking for your opinion on this:

WAtch the pavement and take it slow and short to start. 12 miles is a long ways to run on asphalt or concrete. A friend of mine is a runner. HE took my pointer on a hard 5 mile run i was not aware of. I knew they were going but certainly not that far. Victor was hurt when he got back. I love my dogs to run but not on concrete.

I don't think she meant for the dog to run with the bike, more to ride in a trailer that's being pulled by the bike.

It's a bike trailer.. the dog isn't running it's riding in it.

I have put Mini in a trailer. I just use the trailer I used to put my kids in and i buckle her in like she was going on a car trip. It works fine.

I also have a rig that allows her to ride on the back of the bike. I have a big milk crate that attaches to my bike rack, and I clip her in with a bungee to the bottom. She actually likes that the best because she watches Uncle Fred run alongside, and I swear she says "Nyah nyah nyah" to him. It took some doing to get her to calmly accept that, though.

Also, it causes my kids to sing the wicked witch of the west song.

Uncle Fred is 27" at the shoulder and about 75 lbs. He doesn't fit on the bike, and getting him exercize is the reason we go out to begin with. Trotting along next to a bike is how we keep him in good shape and how we keep his bones strong.

Lola has a car seat that she sits in like she is human. It is made by the same company that makes this trailer and the car seat is a good quality.

The only problem that I see forthcoming is that if someone was to give Lola a whip she would use it on me to make me go faster :rofl1:.

I was looking into getting one of the kid trailers but I think this would work out better as she can stand, sit or lay down. Heck for all I know she might even sit like she is human in it as she does her car seat.

Lately she has been sitting straight up as in the picture except now she leans against the right side of the seat and extends her front paw on the edge as if it is an armrest. Basically the same way I sit in the truck. NOTE: Lola does not wear a collar anymore while in the seat. It is now a Puppia harness, so no flaming please about the collar being attached to the seat strap.

Uh, I think we have a slight gender mistake here of the person who is going to be peddling the bike :yikes: :D

these are ok, but for small breeds the ones ive seen seem a little unweildy...(mabe for a larger breed with mobility issues they would be prefect)

Standard and Deluxe Pet Bicycle Baskets by Solvit Pet Products
Snoozer Buddy Pet Bike Basket - Pet Bicycle Baskets - Pet Travel Center
Solvit Wicker Tagalongâ„¢ Pet Bicycle Basket - Pet Bicycle Baskets - Pet Travel Center

mabe somehting like this would be better...MUCH better veiw too! :p

or make a basket to go on the back out of a milk crate...:)

on my old bike i had a basket on the front for the dogs (big enough to take both vixie and doger) which they LOVED!
on my scooter (moped) i had a milk crate on back that i covered with fabric (and padded it) which ruby rode in, she ADORED that...

once i get a job and som money im buying a new bycicle (a trycicle to be presice as my confidence with the potential for seizing when on 2 wheels is making my ability to enjoy riding a bike of any kind impossible) and the one i want has a big basket on back (which ill make a removable pad/cushion for and the cresties will ride in there whenever i go out on the bike, im also thinking of putting a smaller fornt basket on so ive got somewhere to put stuff :)
(and if i ever get my big dog all i have to do is add a springer bar and we can all enjoy it :p)

The one thing I do not like about a basket that goes on the bike is should I fall off the bike or something else the trailer will stay upright. Unlike a basket Lola could go flying.

If that were to happen all I might need is a band aid but Lola would need a lot more medical attention.

thats why i need a trike, im epileptic so i wont even consider riding with the dogs anymore untill i get that balance sorted...

perhaps something a little more enclosed, a moped frined of mine made a bike BOX out of a clear tupper tote, she cut out the "front" (part facing back)sides, and part of the lid and replaced it with bakers cooling racks (zip tied into place) the top was one with the latches and also got bungeed ontop too so she could get into the box easily but it was still secure, and a nice cushion added to the bottom. she also cut a hole in the back so a saftey leash could be cliped on so if something did happen and the box opend she woudlnt be thrown out

it worked well for her, she actually took a slip on a gravel patch on her moped at one point going 30mph, she got a good case of road rash but the box held up with a few scratches, her dog (a 9lb yorkie) was a little shaken, but was confined within the box to the point where she had a few bumps but nothing even remotly serious.

a good topple on the bike going the right speed CAN flip the trailers, its not common, but ive seen 2 tips on them. same idea though, if such was to happen the dogs confined and doesn thave as far to fall/distance to pick up speed before hitting something.
