a word of caution......invesitgate a breeder as you would a dog breeder. my friend bought what she thought was one of these cats for $600. and while it is an adorable cat.....tis no bengal. what it was .....the usual rip-off from a BYB of the cat world. that's a whole lotta money for a little 'usual' kitty. as with BYB dog breeders........how do they sleep at night?!

They are pretty, I just don't see why people want to have wild or exotic looking cats as a house pet. Same thing with wolf hybrids. I just don't get it. There are sooooo many poor kitties in the shelter...I'd adopt one before buying from a breeder.
Bengals are not wild cats though. Way back when they did come from wild cats, but now they are just a breed like any other. They just have the spotting and a lot smarter more independant of personalities. My cat, whatever she may be came from a friend who just didn't want her anymore for no reason. I will own a Bengal someday because they are wonderful cats with great personalities. But I will never buy from a breeder, I only adopt and rescue pretty much or else I pick 'em up off the streets.

Are you thinking of Ocicats? I have seen them on Animal Planet. But Bengals are becoming common housecats. If they are bred right there should not be any wild cat in them at all. They are bred many generations down from the wildcat. Meaning the ones common now are from Bengal ancestors not wildcat ancestors if you know what I mean. I think Bengals make wonderful housepets. They are very intelligent, can be walked and often act more like dogs. They are beautiful smart cats.
Yes I quoted myself here because I mentioned Ocicats as what I thought you may be refering to on Animal Planet but I just wanted to correct myself because Ocicats are not wild either, they are 100% domestic cat (crosses of Abys, Siamese, and American SH). Just wanted to clear up that mistake I made.

THey are very beautiful!

I LOVE the ragdolls though - they are my favourite.

The Maincoon is my close second fav though..

I agree they are my fav two breeds of cat..I have a maincoon, and hope to have a ragdoll very soon...(keep my fingers crossed):) ....
I have a cat that I found that I think is a Maine Coon/Manx mix or something, he is absolutely HUGE and has no tail. Maine Coons are beautiful cats. My old roomate had one.

My husband and I are planning on getting a Bengal cat at some point in the future. We went and looked at a few kittens a few months ago from a breeder we have locally. She had some CUTE kittens.

I have done tons of research on the Bengals and the only people that seem to have problems with them are the ones that have an F1-F3 generation.

If you like the Bengal cat you should look at a Savannah. A Savannah is a cross between the African Serval and a domestic cat. The Bengal is a cross between the Asian Leopard and a domestic cat. A Savannah does get large as the Serval is a large cat.

I know of a guy who has a Serval as a house cat. The thing is huge and he said it can be very destructive at times.

I'm still doing my research on what I'd rather have -- Bengal, Savannah, or a Birman.

It's like a cat the size of a dog. I don't know about completely wild animals as being kept domestically. Unless there is a good reason for it, not just to have one cuz it's cool or something.
