I read that they cost quite a bit, I don't know though. My cat was part Bengal part calico o_0 suposedly. ;) I wish I had a picture. She was GORGEOUS! She was stolen from our yard unfortunately. :( She was a sweetie, her name was Pumpkin because I got her for my birthday in October (Pumpkin-Fall). :D

These cats are incredible! I've always loved them. If I were to ever get a purebred cat instead of a rescue, this is what I'd get hands down, they're just so beautiful and they're such amazing little characters!

Moxiegrl, they're about $500-$800 for a "pet quality" bengal from a reputable breeder. If you're looking for one with rosettes and more "wild" looking, it's show quality and it's going to cost you more, from what I've found.

I know of them, I wanted to get one very much when I was very young. Now I don't though.
Why would someone cross a wild cat with a domestic cat?? Just for a pet...?
I like Bengal cat's temperment and I have nothing against the actual cat, but I don't like the fact that people intentionally bred them to a wild animal to make a pet.

Yes, I agree that the cats are cool...just my 2 cents.

Yes, the cats are cool, but they still retain a lot of 'wild' characteristics, such as the way they smell, yowl and mark territory. Other cats don't like them much because they don't smell or act "right". They're also friggin' huge!

My friend has one and Bing is a neat cat, but it's not for the faint of heart or those who like an intact house.

These characteristics are likely in ANY intact housecat... it has very little to do with any 'wild' heritage. I've never heard of a cat rejecting a bengal because it's a bengal... that is a completley new concept to me, I'd like to know why you feel this way. Any cats being introduced should be done carefully and over time to ensure a positive experience for all cats involved.

And their standard is between 7-15lbs (females on the smaller side, males on the larger). So only the males are slightly larger than the "average" cat (but my parents cats are thick and muscular at 15 and 16lbs, and they're generic housecats...)

I agree. They are beautiful but still. I have seen an animal planet bad Bengal cat breeders get busted and its pretty sad how the operation is ran. I know not all Bengal breeders are like that but still. Im not saying I would never own one. I will never buy one thats for sure though.

Yup I love Ragdolls, they're pretty much the polar opposite of Bengals though... :lol-sign:

Make sure you do LOTS of research first...they're not your average cat, and there are tons of Bengal BYBs since they are so popular. Make sure the breeder has the cats living in their house as family members. Also, make sure they extensively socialize their kittens so they don't grow up to be shy like so many cats do due to lack of socialization.

If I ever wanted to get a purebred cat from a breeder (which will be never, but that's just me lol) that was really active and curious like a Bengal, I'd get an Abyssinian or Samoli (a long coated version of the Aby, very beautiful and wild-looking). One major drawback about Bengals to me was always that they mark.

We NEED pics! :D

woah they are awesome. My cat Tigger looks kinda of bengalish but I'm pretty positive she isn't though I don't know what she is. I liked reading the tricks, they sound so smart.

I agree they are absolutely beautiful. If I ever got one I would not take it lightly, and I would be EXTREMELY cautious about not paying the BYBs for one, since it seems like there would be a lot of them! I wonder how many there are in shelters. I'm gonna run to Petfinder. ;) Just to check.

There are lots of 'em on Petfinder. . .but a bunch of them can't be around other cats, dogs, and small children. maybe because of so many BYBs not socializing them?
