This was the first time I have seen a Harry Potter movie on the first day it came out! I seen it with fourteen other family members. We arrived too late for the 7:30 showing(which we reserved tickets), every seat was fulled. We had to switch for the 9:30 showing and made sure we were one of the first to arrive. We had to wait in line for almost an hour, but we were in front and all fifteen of us were able to seat side by side!!

SPOILERS, SPOILERS, SPOILERSs,

On to the movie. Now, I will admit to having my expectations were waaaay too high for this movie. I've seen what rotten tomatoes gave it beforehand( 97%!!) and read some non spoiler reviews. One reviewer commented that the action in the film rivaled Lord of the Rings so I was expecting a LOT of action. That didn't happen. In fact, they show almost half the action scenes on the trailer. Was a bit disappointed at that. Again, too high expectations on the action side.

The acting was amazing. Dan really outshine in this one and is definitely his best performance to date. Emma and Rupert were great as well, but for some reason I wanted more of them. I guess I was thinking that it would be like DH Part 1 where Ron and Hermione were equal to Harry when it comes to screen time and lines. I shouldn't have expected that since DH Part 2 is where Harry really shines. The kiss between Ron and Hermione was unexpected and I really like it. I expected the kiss between them as ron and hermione inching closer to each other, slowly, and then plant one, but this was just as good. All the adults, particularly Snape, really outdone themselves. Snape death was tragic, more so in the movie than in the books, and I felt so bad for him. Snape's memories were very well done. I love how they used clips from the past movies to explain Snape's role, and I love how Snape held Lily in the end. I prefer this end between Harry and Voldermort because the book ending would have been a bit anti climatic.

Other things I loved:
Shows a more evil side of Voldermort
Neville was awsome in this movie!
The movie had some really gruesome scenes. Lavender was being eaten by Greyback, I felt so bad for the poor girl. Voldemort walking through the massacred dwares in gringotts. The dead students...
I'm glad that Goyle died the way Crabb would have if his actor was still in the films. I feel that showing the death of one of Malfoy's friends that was there since the beginning added a great touch to the tragedy of it all.
The dragon and grigotts scene was impressive.

Now to things I wish they kept in. I was REALLY looking forward to seeing Fred die in the way the book had it. Why did they not put that scene in?? It would have been so much more impacting if ron, hermione, harry, and percy( or george), would have witness the death. I was looking forward in seeing the Weasly brothers reaction to it. How upsetting would it have been to see Ron seething in anger trying to run after the death eater who killed his brother, and Hermione holding him back, crying and trying to convince him to stay. It was one of the only scenes where I was SURE it would be in the movie and was really hopeing to see it. Why does the movie tell some of Dumbledores back story, but never truly gives a full explanation? I thought that the movie was going to show little clips of Dumbledore's past. I wanted to see more of the background characters fighting, just giving them a moment to shine. I like the epilogue, but I wanted to see more.

And I really hated how Ron didn't react to Harry telling them that he had to die. I mean come on! The movies never did their relationship justice, but I would have expected a better reaction than just giving Harry a look. Your best friend in the whole wide world that you been through so much together is about to die. Book Ron would have never allowed Harry just to walk to his death, at least without much fighting against him. There is a reason why Harry never confided in them in the first place. Book Ron would have had a fit, especially after having to deal with Fred dying. I tolerated a lot of the movies horrific portrayal of their friendship, but this was too much!

I'm going to see the movie again though, this time without all the unrealistic expectations. I try in the past to look at the movies seperated form the books, and failed to do so with this one. I'd probably like it a whole lot better for my second time.

Otherwise, the movie was great!

Saw it 3 times already (sad but true lol)
Loved it. Loved it loved it.
It was a great movie and a great end to an epic movie series.

My expectations, like you, were WAY too high the first time and I felt.. I dunno...and then I realized that NO MOVIE would've made me walk out of that theater feeling less than depressed lol I HATED to see these movies end.

Second time, I really loved it for what it was (especially without the super crowded theater) I watched it and really felt like they did the best they could and the movie was great

I laughed. I cried. I cried. I cried.

Will a movie EVER be as good as a book? no. It's pretty obvious as to why, books are LONG, in order to make this movie a conceivable time frame, they had to cut things short and I think they did a good job summing it all up

I like that this movie cut certain parts out, instead of rushing important things and half-ass them. If all my favorite parts of the book were included and given due justice.. the movie would be 20 hours long! lol

Amazing actors, amazing movie, amazing effects.
but more than anything..amazing books to hold it all together :)

I will really miss these movies. I was 12 the first time I saw my first harry potter movie, and have grown up with them ever since. It is really sad to see it all end :(

Three times! Your lucky. I hope to go with a friend sometime next week to see it again. I actually like crowed theaters. I dunno, it just gives more imput to how I'm feeling at the time when an audience reacts to something.

I just got back. It was spectacular.

The dragon was amazing. The way it looked, the way it struggled, the way it clamored up and then just undramatic-ally stopped like animals are prone to do, the way it panted looked so real, the way it took a while to get altitude, I loved it.

Snape's death was sooo much better in the movie, I thought. In the book I just didn't see it... the piercing, the scream, the snake in the orb... just no. But the hard, reptilian *thwack* *thwack* *thwack* and the blood on the window was very natural, very nicely done.

And Alan Rickman, who I have never liked as Snape (Snape is always lean-looking in my mind, with STRAIGHT hair. No wave, nothing) did a great job dying. I thought it was so corny in the book ("look...at...me") but in the movie it turned out nice and natural I thought.

Now Snape's memories. I thought they were great (finding/holding her body was nicely done) expect the kid didn't look like how I thought kid Snape should look. And I wish they could've included more of the scenes from Lily/Snape schooldays when they were besties lol (ok maybe not besties but...). However I understand they couldn't've. Also, I always read Snape as being more shocked and appalled and "are you f'ing kidding me?!" when Dumbledore tells of Harry's ultimate fate. I quote:

"We have protected him because it is essential to teach him, to raise him, to let him try his strength," said Dumbledore... "If I know him, he will have arranged matters so that when he does set out to meet his death, it will, truly, mean the end of Voldemort."

Dumbledore opened his eyes. Snape looked horrifed.

"You have kept him alive so that he can die at the right moment?"

"Don't be shocked, Severus. How many men and women have you watched die?"

"Lately, only those whom I could not save" said Snape. He stood up. "You have used me."

"Meaning?"

"I have spied for you, and lied for you, put myself in mortal danger for you. Everything was supposed to keep Lily Potter's son safe. Now you tell me you have been raising him like a pig for slaughter-"

Deathly Hallows, pg 551
Know what I mean? In the book he seems sickened by Dumbledore... I thought that part was really good so I'm a bit disappointed that they changed it. When I was in the theatre I was so scared he wouldn't say "like a pig for slaughter" lol I guess that sounds dumb but Dumbledore needed to be told and we needed to see Snape morally outraged.

Yeah Fred's death needed a bit more. If I hadn't read the books I wouldn't even have known which Weasley it was.

I also agree about the "goodbyes" before Harry went to Voldemort. I think it should have been like in the book, even if they both saw it coming (and Ron did not) I would've expected them to not be so accepting ya know? Especially Ron.

And I wanted Hagrid to put up more of a fight/be more desperate and loud and panicky when he saw first saw Harry arrive in the forest.

I could never imagine gross child thing at King's Cross so that was nice to see on screen.

ETA: Oh and Voldemort hugging Malfoy??? LOL

Voldemort "melting" was great. The wand in slo-mo eehhh not so much. Harry jumping with Voldy was also kind of lame.

The epilogue was better than in the book IMO lol in the book I was like "omg did she really do this..." but it was OK in the movie. Harry's kid was cuuttteee. Malfoy's facial hair? lol

First of all, Harry forgot to fix his old wand. That still bothers me. It wasn't something I expected them to cut out. But I guess they never made a big enough deal about it in the movie.
They really cut some of the sub-plots out. Even the ones they sort of lead up to, like Dumbledore's.
I also wish they had done more with Fred's death. It just wasn't given an ounce of justice. The thing with Ron and Hermione realizing he was leaving to die and then not doing anything about it.... was in my mind, lame.

I did love Snape's memories, he's my favourite character and while I wish they could have included more, I understand why they didn't. (also wasn't James supposed to look like Harry? :p )
Oh and the dragon was awesome.

Over all, I did enjoy the movie. It's not as good as the book- no way. But I did enjoy it so much. I was surrounded by people that were dressed up and in love with the same characters, the same world and the same story as me. I have literally been a Potter fan for half of my life, since I was nine. It's the reason I even read other books today and I really don't want this to be the end.

Doug surprised me last night by taking me. The theater was more packed then I am comfortable with but SHeena still had plenty of room to stretch out so all was good. I haven't read the last book so for me all of it was new and exciting with no expectations or desires for certain parts. I want to get the whole book set now and read them because I know they are way more detailed then the movies. Mine and Dougs favorite scene is when they were preparing the castle for battle. Dougs favorite quote was when Magonigal said "I always wanted to use that spell." I can't wait for it to come out on DVD to add to our collection. Doug and I are both movie nuts. lol

I was kind of bummed about him not fixing his old wand, too. In the movie, or half a second I thought he was going to fix the school and his wand with the elder wand before he snapped it. Dunno what I was thinking lol

I wonder if doing more with the deaths would've made the PG ratings go up.... there were some LITTLE kids there when I saw it (and midnight!) and I thought it was awfully violent for kids that little. BUT I suppose if they read the book, it didn't matter. Looking back now, I agree with you all.
I was missing Hagrid (and Grawp!) unless I missed it -- in the fighting scenes, and also I was wondering about the whole Percy thing (I guess they left that WHOLE plot out in the movies, so that didn't matter much) and Ron's Dad until he was holding Giny back...
But I LOVED Molly's famous line - I was SO glad they didn't cut that out!
Dougs favorite quote was when Magonigal said "I always wanted to use that spell."
The whole theater was dying laughing at the part... :D lol

Overall, I expected to b disappointed (I've read the book again twice before the movie came out) and so I really, really wasn't. I think they did a great job, it was close enough. Probably as close as it could be.
I'm going to see it again today, and my one friend who's going hasn't read any of the books beyond the first 3, but has seen all of the movies. I'm really interested in hearing what she thinks about 7.2 with the non-comparing-to-the-book perspective.

LOVED the Snape scene... Alan Rickman did an awesome job... gave me chills, and YES I cried!!! Him holding Lily set me over the edge of being able to control that  lol

I saw is last night, LOVED it. I haven't read the book (waited to read it on purpose to avoid any disappointment, now I get to read it and be happy at all the extra insight) so I thought everything was great. My only issue with it was the lack of emotion between Harry and Ron, they didn't even hug when Harry was going off to die. I also don't know how I feel about the epilogue...again I'd have liked more interaction between Ron, Harry, and Hermione.

But otherwise I thought it was great, I liked the Snape flashbacks as well, at first I didn't get all the emotion out of him that I wanted (perhaps if they had made him more disgusted with Dumbledore as Xandra said it would have been a bit better), but when he saw her body and held her and sobbed it was perfect. But I'm soooooo sad it's over. At least I get to read the book now.

and I'm sad Lupin died, best teacher ever :(

For Doug and I we totally got why Ron did not react all that emotionally. He had just lost his brother. He could have been in shock, emotionally drained or many other likely reasons. He could have thought that it would save his family. To us it made total sense.

Honestly other than the fourth movie, this was the first HP movie I watched that I wasn't disappointed with. I like the others but none of the others were near as good as the book and skipped around so much that they were confusing.

I thought this one was well done and the Snape sequence in particular was phenomenal. I cried, lol.

I really, really enjoyed it. Voldemort creeps me out a bit LOL. I am not disappointed like some because I didn't read the book before hand! I am just disappointed this is the very last one! :( I never really thought Harry would come back to life but glad he did and Voldemort is dead, I had no idea Snape cared that much for Harry when Harry went into that water-thing.

I want to go see it again.. in 3D this time but I will most likely wait for it to come out on DVD. I ordered the 1st part on Netflix.. even though I saw it in theatres I just want to see it again, lol. I am a big Harry Potter fan, I have watched the movies I think I missed only one movie but read the first 2 books before the movies came out. :) All in all, I enjoyed Part 1 and 2 the best out of all the movies. :) I really like the very first one, also.
