For those of you who don't put collars on your dogs, and use harnesses instead, I have a question.

Do you leave the harness on all day? Do you wear a collar with the harness and only leave the collar on all the time?

Psyche's getting demoted to a harness rather then a collar, because we think she hurt her throat and now if she pulls (rather, when she pulls) she hurts it again, so to a harness we go. She usually doesn't wear her collar all the time, so I probably wouldn't leave a harness on her all the time, but I got to thinking and thought I'd ask.

Thanks!

Nope... but he also doesn't wear a collar in the house either.
If your dogs wear collars in the house I'd get her a breakaway collar and let her wear that all the time, too, and then just attach your leash to her harness.

Well, she usually doesn't wear the collar, to be honest. The only ones who do are Rhyme and Zoey, because they have to be tied, even inside of our fence.

I doubt I'll leave the harness on her all the time, it'll probably just be an hour here and hour there when I think I might need it.

Used to leave Riley's harness on during the day and take it off at night, but now he only wears it if we're walking somewhere that he needs to be on leash.

Chloe wears a collar with ID all the time, and we have a puppia soft harness attached to her leash, and we only put it on her when we take her for walks. If she got out of her harness, she needs the collar, so that we can be contacted if she's found.

I know someone who left their harness on their dog 24/7. The tags were on the harness, too.

I would definitely leave one or the other on all the time, even if the collar is not used to attach leash to. I would always want ID on them (even if they were not likely to take off).

Rosey leaves her collar on all the time, but we use her collar for walks

The don't wear their harness unless we're going somewhere where they need to be leashed and are naked inside the house.

Jackson wears a collar pretty much 24/7. Harness typically only gets put on when we go outside, for rides, parks, etc. But occasionally I will leave it on for a few hours during the day. I use Puppia so they're pretty comfortable.

Mine only wear harnesses when I take them on a leash walk. On hikes, they go naked or have a shirt or jacket if it's cold. A couple of those have hooks...are like harnesses. I carry leashes just in case I need them for some reason. But I never do...there's no one out there. In the house, they don't wear anything either....no collar, no harness. I guess it depends on your environment....how likely it is that your dogs will run off...whatever. My Chi's stick close and are super obedient out on trail so I don't feel like they need anything. I don't think it's particularly safe to leave things on dogs when you're not around...just in case they get caught on something. So, personally, I don't leave collars or harnesses on dogs except when I'm with them on a walk.

Yeah, I'm always paranoid about the dogs getting their collars stuck on the wire fence and choking, so they don't wear anything unless we're going somewhere.

My dogs are both naked in the house. Collars go on anytime we leave the house, or if I anticipate needed to grab them by the collar (for example, when my idiot landlord comes over). Harnesses go on any time we go in the car, and then usually remain on until we're either back home or at my parents' house. With my dogs, collars are used for heeling, harnesses are used for pulling. And biking.

I only use the harnesses when we go for walks or to the park, and I leave their collars with tags on 24/7, unless I worked a double shift and work the next day and need to fall asleep really fast and dont want to hear even the tiniest sound, then their collars come off til morning!
