I've had good luck with a brand of dog food, and thought I'd share for the benefit of those who are looking around. I had to take the Horsemen off raw awhile back, but it was hard for me to find a decent kibble that didn't kill my pocketbook.

I tried a few brands before feeding Diamond Naturals Extreme Athlete Chicken & Rice formula. The boys have been on it for about a month. I'm very happy with it. It's 35 percent protein and 25 percent fat, and has no corn, soy, or wheat in it (important for Zeus' allergies). Of course its not as good as raw, but it's the best I've seen my boys look on kibble. The price is reasonable, too. I can buy it at Tractor Supply for about $35 for a 40-lb bag. By comparison, TOTW is $45 for a 30-lb bag.

Just thought I'd let everyone know, in case anyone else is doing the kibble shuffle.

Here are the ingredients for the food your feeding.

Chicken meal, chicken, brewers rice, chicken fat (preserved with mixed tocopherols), egg product, cracked pearled barley, powdered cellulose, beet pulp, flaxseed, natural chicken flavor, fish meal, potassium chloride, choline chloride, glucosamine hydrochloride, vitamin E supplement, iron proteinate, zinc proteinate, copper proteinate, ferrous sulfate, zinc sulfate, copper sulfate, potassium iodide, thiamine mononitrate (vitamin B1), manganese proteinate, manganous oxide, chondroitin sulfate, ascorbic acid, vitamin A supplement, biotin, calcium pantothenate, manganese sulfate, sodium selenite, pyridoxine hydrochloride (vitamin B6), vitamin B12 supplement, riboflavin (vitamin B2), vitamin D supplement, folic acid.

I thought I would post the ingredients being that it is what people usually judge a dog food by. I have no idea how this would stack up against other foods. So if anyone wants to weigh in on the ingredients of this food feel free. I'd like to know if it is good or not.

Those look like pretty darn good ingredients to me. Most important thing for me is NO meat by-product.
My thoughts exactly. Pretty decent ingredients. It's hard to find a relatively inexpensive dog food that isn't chock-full of fillers and corn.

I tried the regular Diamond Naturals Chicken and Rice first. That may also be a food you might be interested in. It's a more inexpensive food (only $27 for a 40 lb bag!), but still has pretty good ingredients. The only difference is that it has a lower protein percentage and lower fat percentage than the Extreme Athlete food. Zeus did perfectly fine on it, but it gave Voodoo dandruff. I guess Voodoo needs more fat in his diet for his coat.

For what it is, it's pretty good. I'm not super thrilled with "brewers rice" and the unnamed generic "fish meal" source, but it's good enough overall.

I feed the chicken and rice from Diamond, too, but the Costco formula. it is extremely similar to the regular Diamond chicken and rice, and it also doesn't have enough fat or protein for Uncle Fred. I prefer to have both dogs getting the same food, and the last thing Mini needs is more fat, so I just supplement with fat and a daily egg to keep him fit and glossy.

When I first adopted Lola I took her to the vet for a wellness exam and the vet went over a few things like feeding etc. He mentioned giving her one scrambled cooked egg once a week but not anymore.

Perhaps it would be to much cholesterol?

We also feed Diamond Naturals (we rotate between the EA and L&R). It's been great so far.

The schnauzers get Diamond Naturals lamb and whatever... the poodles are eating it too right now cuz I ran out of puppy (they were eating the plain Diamond Puppy). Hopefully when I go back next they have the Diamond Naturals puppy as they are having to eat alot of the adult to get that protein they need (I noticed feeding same amount with both foods they were looking a bit skinny on the DN food).

I did the EA for a while, then started having poopy problems last winter. I don't know what may have changed, but the problems cleared up and haven't come back since switching to Eagle Pack Power. Power has corn as the carb ingredient, but for many of my dogs, corn isn't evil.

I've only found it at Tractor Supply (which we don't have here in Colorado lol) and I"ve switched around a bit. I used to feed the extreme athlete but had some runny poo problems (I think too much protein?) I switched to Purina Pro Plan for awhile, it was hard to find, and ended up with the Kirkland (made by Diamond) Chicken and Rice formula. My dogs like that, and it's really affordable for $22 for a 40# bag. The Lamb and Rice is $24 for a 40# bag, but it got worse reviews than the chicken formula.

I agree with Zoom. I also don't much care for beet pulp...which was a nice supplement for the horses, but I have yet to understand why my carnvores should be eating it.
