I thought I'd share a couple of pictures I got yesterday. My horse Tristan is extremely difficult with other horses; there are very few he gets along with, and once he bonds with one, he becomes extremely possesive of them. If another horse goes out with them, he will spend the whole day keeping the new horse away from "his" horse. He's like a bad boyfriend! His current best buddy is Scooter, who we refer to as "his" pony. After they were stuck in for a few days (the snow arrived before they got winter shoes on), Scooter's owner and I decided to let them play together for a bit in the indoor. The lighting is always hard, but a few shots came out. Poor Tristan looks like a shadow of his former self right now; it has been a long 10 months coming back from a ligament injury, so his muscles are pretty much gone:( . He's finally back in work and getting stronger again.

The lighting actually made this shot look cool.

These will have to serve as "before" pictures - hopefully in six months or so, he'll start looking like himself again!

I loved that it was the first name that came up on the "favorite names" thread! I can't take credit for it, though; I believe he was actually named after Brad Pitt's character in "Legends of the Fall". I do like it, though, and even use it as his show name. "Tristan" was already taken in the Hanoverian registry, though, so he is registered as "Tarrou", my favorite literary character from "The Plague".

It really suits him! It's my all time favourite name :D. I love the name Tarrou, I'd never even heard of that name before.

Great pics! Even out of condition, he's a beauty! Is it the lighting in the indoor or do you bodyclip Tristan in the winter? His color seems different...

Our guys are fuzzy bears and they've been stuck in the barn/paddock for over a week due to the ice (last week we got 3 inches of sleet and a couple of snow - now it's just ice everywhere.) They are NOT happy campers!

Hey Sarah! Never say never! If you really want a horse, you'll get one eventually. I've got a friend who didn't get to fulfill her 'dream' until her kids were finally out on their own. She took lessons, leased and eventually bought the horse she was leasing. It was so cute - she had a 'barn mitzvah' for him when he officially became hers.

His color is so much like my old horses-beautiful!
I sure can't tell anything happened to him!
Mine was always a nuttball in the arena if we turned him out there,he'd go to the window of the office or lounge and look in there like he was challenging them and paw the ground and then he'd run away like mad when they came out.

    ...................I NEED a horse again:p

He's just been body clipped for the second time this year:rolleyes: . I've never known a horse who sweats as much as Tristan. If he's not fully clipped, it will be dripping off of him at the end of a ride. I'm also allergic to the sweat, so keeping him clipped makes the winters a lot easier on me. His real color is in the picture below - very deep chestnut. Poor chesnuts really get the short end of the stick when it comes to clipping; he's practically pink. At least he's shiny.

There is always the chance. Tristan is the first horse I've owned, and I didn't get him until my junior year of college. I leased my "heart horse", Boston Banker, during high school, and then just rode whatever my trainer could find for me. It's hard sometimes - more than 50% of my income goes towards Tristan, but it is worth it to me:) .

Gotta admit, I do love a rich, deep red chestnut color! Still better than clipped bays, I think... they turn grey, which looks pretty weird with a bay head. Lol!

Way back in the dark ages, when I first started taking lessons, there was a TB hunter who was either a blue roan or iron gray (I'm thinking a gray since he was dappled), and when they clipped him for the winter, he turned a pale lavendar - a very strange sight to see!

Grays definitely are the nicest clipped; I've seen several who come out with that pretty lavender/light blue color. I have a friend with a very dark bay who clips nicely too.

The funniest I've seen are buckskins. My friend has a horse who is a very bright gold buckskin in the summer, and turns lighter in the winter. The first time she body clipped him, he was an almost perfect dapple gray:confused: . Who would have thought?

I am so happy to see some horse pictures on here. :D
I *hope* (quite desperately, in fact) to have my first horse by March next year.

That's wonderful! Are you horse shopping now? What are you looking for?

I love looking at horses - you will have to keep us up to date!

Be careful what you wish for! I'm so proud of Tristan, you may soon be overrun by horsey pictures!

Thanks for all the compliments, everyone. I'll have to pass them on to Tristan, who is horribly vain:D

We haven't started looking quite yet. We're going to look at the ranch where I used to volunteer first, as they do trail rides as well and have excellent horses that would suit me as I want a horse that is just a trail horse. I'm just striving for trail and pleasure. Nothing too exciting or fancy. ;) I am nuts about horses though and as I haven't been riding in a long time (ok, like a few weeks) I am going through a withdrawal. :p
And I would love to see more pics! Always! :D
