Not once, at any thanksgiving table I have sat down at, have I heard somebody giving thanks for being an American, or being thankfull for not being a citizen of *insert country here*. I have never heard my stepdad give thanks for no longer being a Canadian citizen. My Puerto Rican aunt has never given thanks that she is now an American.

When it is Thanksgiving here, I will be sure to remember my Canadian family members, and the Canadian members of Chaz.

ha. i have much more than that to be thankful for. i just didn't know the history of thanksgiving in canada [being an american]. but, now i have looked it up.
it follows more of a european tradition of being thankful for a good harvest. and harvest comes earlier in canada than it does in the states. the first thanksgiving in canada was celebrated 43 years or so before the pilgrims landed in the states. it was later made into an official holiday: "a day of general thanksgiving to almighty God for the bountiful harvest with which Canada has been blessed."
