No, but I am partially responsable for a mouse/hamster/gerbil infestation at one of Anchorages public schools.

I've had one. If you're looking for a good rodent as a pet, I'd recommend guinea pigs, they are not temperamental at all, they're extremely cute, and they don't have the nasty tendency to cannibalize each other. They also live much longer than hamsters, and make the CUTEST little noises. I love mine.

If you do a search using Yahoo you will probably find some forums specifically for 'pocket pets' where you can get a lot of good information. I could give you some links on guinea pig stuff if you're interested, but I'm not that into hamsters, although I know there are similar forums out there for them.

LOL blue! ... I've had two hamsters (cupcake and twinkie) and a guinea pig named Willie. Ashley (my youngest daughter) would love to have a guinea pig but ... with Fagan, the cat, around I wouldn't feel comfortable.

You're right that cats are a concern, but it depends on the cat. There are some cats I wouldn't trust in the same ROOM with a guinea pig, but mine loves them (they're like kitty HBO, she'll watch them for hours) and has been known to curl up and sleep with them if we leave the cage open. (We only did this after 'testing' her with them several times while we were holding them! Don't try it unless you KNOW your cat can be trusted!).

I've had a few hamsters in my high school years (along with mice, gerbils, and rats). Hamsters are cool but I prefer the rats. Rats are so social and sweet. I loved my rats they used to give me little rat "kisses". My rat used to LOVE 100 Grand bars and one night after Halloween she went in my candy and actually found a 100 Grand bar and started to eat it.

Get a RAT...they are so social and make awesome pets. I had rats growing up and they were so much fun :D I had many hamsters as well, but none held a candle to the rats!!!

I've heard that before, of the rats. Many people don't think of them as pets, but I've heard they are great. I guess you have to get past the 'rat' stigma to enjoy them.

And, no I couldn't trust Fagan to be domesticated with a rodent. lol I'm lucky he doesn't attack my bird at the moment.

I have never owned a rat, but I've heard that they're extremely intelligent and entertaining as pets!

Present, I have a hamster named Snickers. On his belly, chin, inside or the ears, butt, and half of the tail he is white. The rest of him is a fawn color, but lighter.
Gerbils and hamsters are not the same thing. Gerbils have longer tails.
I have a gerbil named Buddy(who is black and white) and he was in a terrible accident. He got out of his cage and dissapeared into a hole in the floor. He was inside the wall, and my dog,Wendy, found him.My dad tried to pick him up, but he slipped away. The thing is, my dad grabbed his tail. When he picked Buddy up, half of his tail came off, skin and all  Well, the good thing it we caught him and we got him a new cage. His tail has healed very nicely and he is fat now! ;) He spend most of his free time in his wooden house we got from Big Lots.LOL!He made a nest out of stretchy cardboard in the bottom of his cage.
I also had another gerbil,Zoro. He was the bes gerbil any one could of asked for.He was also in a tragic accident.DEATH.!!!!!!I was cat-sitting a mean cat named Elliot. Some one let Zoro out of his cage.He got out of my room.Elliot was very interested in him.DEATH OCCURED.Elliot did not eat him.My dad threw him out when I was at my moms.
When I was four, I had a hamster named Nalla. She, too was in another tragic accident.DEATH, :eek:I was innocently playing with her in her ball.I didnt know any better things to do.She wasnt moving in her ball. I wanted her to move! You cant blame me, because I was only little, but I shook the ball.It killed her.I wish I hadnt, because I miss her.I miss all of my dead animals.

MAY ALL DEAD ANIMALS REST IN PEACE!

No I never had any, but I remember my cousin had a guinea pig that was EXTREMELY fat and died because he got stuck on the tube thing and couldn't breathe or something like that
