A few of the people on here have seen photos of Hadley, and a few have even met her. I wanted to share my story about her.

I adopted Hadley from the SPCA van outside my PetSmart 8 months ago. She was brilliant. She learned everything I taught her instantly. I can't even list out her tricks, she knew so many. She was high energy and beautiful. She also ruined carpet in two homes, two crates, and plenty of toys. I loved her more than I ever imagined I could when I got her :)

For personal reasons (which we are not going to discuss, because it's not the point), I had to rehome her on Tuesday. I spent two months trying to find a home. I contacted every rescue I could, I put ads on CL, I asked everyone I could think of. I finally had to take her back to the SPCA. I took her in, they evaluated her, and took her back. I cried for hours. It was one of the hardest things I've ever done.

After a few days had gone by, I've gotten used to her not being around. The car is quiet without her chewing my seatbelts or trash. The house is much calmer. Sadie doesn't seem to notice.

The SPCA van came to work today. I stopped to say hi to the manager, and she told me she had seen Hadley that morning and she was doing great. Happy and healthy. They're not technically allowed to tell previous owners if the dog gets adopted, but I knew she would let me know since I see them almost every weekend.

I hadn't talked much about her to anyone since I left her. Today a woman had a cute little brindle puppy (supposedly a dachshund and westie mix, but brindle?) in her cart, and I stopped to help her. I commented that I used to have a brindle dog.

And then there she was.

She was licking my hand and trying to jump on me. I couldn't believe it was her until her new owners said "Come on Hadley!"

I ran back to the hotel and asked the other trainer, Linda, to go help them. After she gave me a big hug and helped me stop crying, she got them everything they needed; the Easy-Walk harness, the crate, chew toys. I saw them a few times, trying to avoid Hadley seeing me.

Linda said the people who adopted her are wonderful. They got all the right stuff for her and they're really sweet. Linda told them I was there, so they gave her their names & phone number so I could call them. They offered to bring her back every now and then so everyone can see her - even though they live about 40 minutes south of the store. She came to work with me for 8 months, so everyone instantly knew her. They promised to keep her name.

I'm really glad she got a great new home, and I'm so thankful I was able to see her with her new family and know that she was adopted by good people. I'm also really thankful to see how wonderful our no-kill SPCA is. When I spent two months trying to rehome her, and failed, it only took them 4 days to find her a great home.

Seeing her was emotionally devastating. If I'd known she'd been adopted, I'd have been prepared for the possibility, so it was pretty shocking. But it's the most wonderful ending for my story with Hadley I could have asked for. I know she's going to be happy and I'm so glad a great couple found her, she will make their lives wonderful too.

I'm sorry you ended up having to rehome your girl, I know you loved her very much.
Glad she was able to find a new family that will give her everything she needs.
