There are two dog breeders not more than a couple of miles from my house. On the same road & everything. One bred my friend's Rottweiler. This breeder breeds Rottweilers & Lhasa Apsos as well as cattle. The other breeds Golden Retrievers [my friend has a couple of their pups] and 'Mini Aussies'. There is a German Shepherd breeder in the same town I live in, but his dogs are very overpriced in my opinion. I have met him at multiple dog shows. He brings his young dogs to agility shows to practice obedience with them around all of the commotion. I called & talked to the Rottie breeder yesterday and the day before. She would like to have me over and meet her animals and have me watch her dogs & other pets while she is out of town. I'm going to the Golden/Aussie breeder's house today, possibly. Wish me luck! And no, I don't plan on getting a puppy from any of these breeders. Our next dogs will be rescues just like all of our other dogs. I'm just interested in helping train the dogs, spending time with the dogs, getting to know more breeders, etc. and possibly handling their dogs in shows. I've done it all before, and love meeting breeders.

So far I've worked with...
a Retriever breeder [flat coats, goldens & labs]
a German Shepherd breeder
a Shih Tzu breeder
a Pit Bull breeder
a Boxer breeder
& I look forward to getting to know these two ^^

I use to work with a Bullmastiff breeder and Doberman breeder..I never actually got to help with litters because they never had any while I was helping, but it was still fun to go to dog shows and such..

Sounds like fun..I miss working with doggies :( Good Luck!

Oh, just random..but what's a mini aussie? I didn't think they were an actual breed..>.>

Thanks A.! I just got a call back from the Golden/Aussie breeder. She says tommorow at 11 would be a better time instead of today. I'm excited :D

You don't want to know! LOL, my neighbor has a male mini aussie, and the head of this dog looks SO strange :p

Anywhoo, not to rain on your happiness, but Smexy, most breeders don't breed two breeds that different from each other -Rottweilers & Lhasa Apsos. Then Retrievers and "Mini Aussie.- And "Mini Aussies" are like Teacup Poodles ;)

I personally wouldn't work with them. If you would like to find a breeder, then look at local clubs and ask if you can tag along with one of them.

JMHO as always :)

They aren't. But they are not exactly a designer breed, either. But they are getting fairly popular. They're exactly what their name is..a Miniature Aussie.

Standard Aussie...

Miniature [not a registered breed]

Toy [not a registered breed] [13" & under]

I've met quite a few people with them.
& the "breed' is getting quite popular around here.

Actually a large working breed and a toy breed wouldn't bother me at all. I know a lot of people that enjoy both and have both. Very different, but there are perks to each.

I've met quite a few that do. I guess I'll find out if they're dogs are wonderful or not tommorow.

Very good point. But I also think it depends on the breed. If I were breeding Rotties, I wouldn't think of breeding another breed along with them.

So have I. And they are wonderful breeders! But, you have to think about *WHAT* breeds they are breeding together.

From what you just said, Mini and Toy Aussie aren't even a registered breed!!

I would just look at their credentials and see if I approve of their breeding practices. The only breeder I've worked with was a sheltie one and not too much really.

Um... So let's say I was particularly fond of Borzoi and Chihuahuas, and chose to breed both. Would I be automatically accused of being a bad breeder, just because I love two very different breeds?

Just saying.

Edited to add: Also, I KNOW Miniature Aussies are accepted SOMEWHERE, because Furry-Paws WILL NOT take a breed that has no registration, and yet Mini Aussies are fairly common there.

A breed standard: http://www.mascaonline.net/standard.htm

These clubs organize events in North America and allow the Miniature Australian Shepherd:

o United States Dog Agility Association
o North American Dog Agility Club
o Agility Association of Canada
o Australian Shepherd Club of America

They are also registered with NAKC/Rarities, along with the Toy Australian Shepherd.

Do your research before accusing a breed of being a hybrid. American White Shepherds aren't accepted by anything but NAKC/Rarities and yet THEY'VE never been accused of being a mutt... now have they? ;)
