I'm a little miffed right now.

There's this older couple who live on the end of the street, and they have this horrible terrier cross. And it's a biter and a barker. And well, the lady doesn't know how to handle it, so she ends up beating it.

Well, my mother was delivering papers for my sister the other day (cuz she was sick) and she walked up to the house, and the dog bursts out the door and attacks her. First her arm, but my mom had on a big parka so she shook it off, then it bit her leg, real bad too. :S

Well, the dog is now under a 20 day quarantine, which pisses off the owners. So you know what they did? They saw my cat outside, and deliberately picked him up and took him to the animal shelter. We were worrying sick about our cat because he was never gone this long. So there he was, at the SPCA, with a hurt leg and as pissed off as I've ever seen him. We had to pay a fine to get him out, and we got this huuuuge lecture about letting him out. Well pfft, our two older cats go free roaming outside all the time. None of the neighbors have a problem with it, if anything they like it because our cats are amazing mousers. You won't find any rodent anywhere around where we live because of our cats.

Now, our cats can't go out at all anymore because of what happened and they're completely pissed off because of it. They're hell to deal with. :S

I feel horrible for this dog. It's not treated properly AT ALL. It's abused like you wouldn't believe. But I don't really know what to do about it. And I feel bad because I'd be taking away this old couple's companion.

Oy.

That was more of a rant than anything, but whatever. :p

If they beat their dog I wouldn't think it's a companion. I would definalty be calling the local shelter or animal control to come out and check on the dog. If they decide the dog is not in a good home they can handle it from there. I wouldn't feel bad about it if they did take the dog. They can't think to highly of the dog if they abuse it.

I know some older couples love having animals around them to keep them company. But if they beat the dog it really doesn't seem like they care for it. Definatly call someone to come out and check it out. Sorry to hear about your cat too. I hope he's ok.

I agree, I'd call AC. For the beating, and for attacking your mom. It's a danger to the community. (And so are your neighbors, from the sounds of it!)

I'm so sorry to hear that. I would be fuming. I've got your back, sister!

And, lol...lots of cats are outdoors. It's not like you can keep them just in your hard..haha. :)

I would call, but I really doubt anything would be done.

And its just the old lady thats the problem with the beating, not the man. The man loves the dog.

And we're pretty sure the dog attacked my mom because she had newspapers, and thats something that he's beaten with.

My cats okay, other than being very angry, but this just makes me angry.

It wasn't the cats fault that the dog bit my mom. And come on, a 20 day quarantine for a bite like that (it was pretty bad) isn't that bad.

What if it was my sister! Or some little kid! They could have been difigured for life if the dog had bit the face. Like ugh.

Awww. Well I'm glad your moms bites weren't worse, and that it wasn't your sister!

It's good to know you have concern for the dog

When I was a kid, we had a poodle that would go ballistic when the paper man came by. Never bit them, but boy w ould she get riled. Shame that they are abusing that dog. Sometimes I think that they should be abused back. I would be furious too. Hope something can be worked out.

I would contact your local legal advisor, it is important that these people realise what they have done. Their dog bit, and that is a justified law suit, as is the incident with the cat. Good luck Muggsies and Fran

I'd call the ASPCA. At least there would be an investigation... the pup sounds like it's in a sad home :(
there wasn't an investigation or anything. it just bit my mom, my mom reported it, and the dog has to be in a 20 day quarantine, and that's it.

blah

Tape the dog being beaten (if you can) and send it to the ASPCA or to the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals

Poor dog. I would call and report the abuse. Why put the dog through more suffering. Apparently if the dog was a companion, she wouldn't abuse it.

There people are obviously terrible neighbors and deserved that quarantine and more no doubt, but lets go over the issue with the cat as well.

If you are not allowed to have your cats roaming where you live then they did nothing wrong with taking it to the humaine society. Yes they probably did it in revenge, but I personally would be grateful that they did not hurt the cat (especialy since you know they hurt their dog) I would chalk it up to bring grateful they only turned the cat into the pound.

Cats who live outdoors are susceptable to death in so many ways. I do not pity anyone who has to keep cats inside, because unless they are feral that is where they should be if you want them to be safe in my opinion.

Here is some information about outdoor cats.

They did hurt the cat though. Not severely, but he's got quite the limp. And their dog must have done something to him, because now he won't go near ours, and whenever she comes to him, he gets really agressive. He was never like that.

Cats are allowed to free roam here. There's no law against it or anything.

It's not like our cats live outside or anything. They're out for maybe 3 hours out of the day. Once in the morning (at like 5 am, when my dad gets up) and then a little in the afternoon. We don't get them go out after dark. If they were let out in daylight, and come back after dark, well, nothing we can do about it then, but still. It's not like they're put outside and left out there. All their shots are always up to date, they're fixed, and everyone knows about them and no one has complained. OKay, well, thats a lie, our one neighbor complained when one of them pooped in her flower bed. The cat hasn't done it since because my dad made them a biiiig outdoor litter box, just for them. Out of our 5 cats, only our two oldest ones go out. And its not like we chose to let them out. When they were younger they would literally rips screens out of our windows just to get outside. And they don't go far, they're on our part of the street at thats it. That's they're territory, and then other cats in the area take over. Almost everyone in our neighborhood that has cats, lets them outside and they all patrol the neighborhood and mouse together. It's really quite cute. :p

I'm personally against cats that are let out to roam. They make great products where cats can go outside safely within fenced in areas in your yard. I've seen so many cats killed by cars and other animals that were let out to roam. One of my mom's cats was hit by a car and killed many years ago and after that hers have all been indoor only and they're living great healthy indoor cat lives :)

It's just my opinion =)

Our cats are pretty hard to keep within fenced areas, lol. They climb them. :p
