she didnt say but im guessing it was... because she just said crystals... and i know there are a few different kinds.... but they have to be caused by protien and that is exactly what i was thinking when i talked to her today... just exactly what that ad said...

i appreciate it

Discharge?

Whitedoberlover,

I found your post on the discharge in your Dobermans and was wondering what you ever found out and how it was treated?

I have a 4 1/2 month old Dobergirl that has a yellow/green discharge after peeing. It looks like snot but is at the wrong end.

She doesn't seemed to be bothered by it and does not have to go very often. She has held it for long as 8 hours in her crate at night.

Anyone with any ideas?

Thanks

I have a female GSD that had that same kind of discharge. It turned out to be an interuterine infection, which can be life threatening. I would take your pup to the vets ASAP, as these infections get very serious extremely quick.

What you are referring to would be called pyometra and is almost unheard of in females under one year of age, but you are correct in saying that it is VERY serious and life threatening. Easily prevented if you have your female spayed.

As far as green discharge goes in puppies or in males, it is really not all that uncommon and may be nothing. Some dogs have it and some puppies have it and outgrow it. Almost all male dogs will have green/yellow discharge on occasion coming from their penises and this is normal. As far as your female goes, if she is a puppy then it could very well be vaginitis and will go away, but if it's an intact adult female then defiantly have the vet check her for pyometra.

If she is showing no discomfort, it's probably juvenile vaginitis. This is common in puppy bitches as their bodies start to change hormonally.

It's good to have a vet check, but if it is JV, it will resolve on it's own.

I've had it in the past with males... but not in pups or females.....a little applied medication cleared it up. I found it more common in my un-neutered males.

My girl had puppy vaginitis at that age too. Green discharge, vet gave me antibiotics, but said it wasn't something to worry about.

Thanks for all the replies. I think I will just keep an eye on it for now. I dislike using any more antibiotics than is really required. Is there any thing short of antibiotics that will help?
