Try this one. I got it online and used it for a recent party:
Green Beans
4 cans (14.5 oz each) Italian style cut green beans (can sub 5 frozen packages - 9 oz. each)
1 cup chopped onion (about one medium onion)
1/4 cup olive oil
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste
Place drained beans in a large sauce pan. Cover with cold water by half (cover the beans and about half the height of the beans above it). Stir in the onions, olive oil, brown sugar and seasonings. Cover and bring to a boil over high heat. Reduce heat to low and simmer for 45 minutes to an hour. Taste for seasoning adjusting salt/pepper as needed. Drain the beans and spoon into a serving bowl.
It wasn't in the recipe, but we added some cooked and chopped bacon to the beans after we put them in the serving dish. It just screamed for bacon
