I really like these dogs. I was pretty sure that I would get one as my next dog, and made a point to visit with any of the ones who came through dog classes/boarding when I was working at a dog school. Of course, they aren't all that common, so I probably only met six or seven. Some came from very reputable breeders, two actually came from Switzerland, and one came from a horrible breeder. The temperments were all quite good, but not one reached adulthood without some serious health issues. At least a couple have seizure problems; I think all have joint issues.
Like I said, this is a pretty limited group, and I have no idea how careful the owners were with the dog's health during their growing years. It was enough to convince me that I wasn't up for the risk, both financially and emotionally.
I do still admire the breed, and really like the temperment. If you decide to get one, post lots of adorable pictures so I can live vicariously through you!
