Absolutely BEAUTIFUL dog. I don't know anything about the breed. I've seen a few, but never really looked much into them. What kind of disposition is common with the breed? What kind of work are they usually bred for? What differences do you see between foreign bred verses American bred? I'm curious about the breed. I'm getting a Toller... but I still like to learn as much as I can about every other breed out there... just cause I LOVE dogs. =)
Thanks for the info malndobe.
To keep it simple and without disagreements I'll just tell you about Granduer. Her disposition is that of no other. She's a love sponge, velcro, fast as lightening, very demanding of things, she has controlled aggression, her fight drive is off the wall, not too much play drive... but it shows seriously now and again if there's water involved
very very very serious with everything she does and gives it her all everytime. She has the heart of a race horse .. something I wish the horses had 1/2 the time.
She loves the water, we take the dogs scouting horseback (minus Nemos) 25 miles up stream and we canoe down and she would rather swim the whole way than stay in the canoe. Sara's the same way. Nemos tires out after 5 miles.
She is excellent with children, she loves everyone, but has a problem with strangers being close to me or Christopher. If she meets a stranger away from us she's fine and happy tail wagging and wants pets and kisses, if they come to be within maybe 10 feet she has a serious serious problem.
I cannot trust her with strange dogs, she wants to fight if they come close. She's ok if they are more than about 10 feet, but if they come over to us I need to hold her the other dog is in danger, this I see as a problem if I show her, so either I remedy this or stick to sports (a remedy doesn't look to be possible, I dunno yet). Nemos (Pit Bull) is the complete opposite, he loves all dogs.
Granduer is great in the house, she gets wild a few times a day bouncing around everything, but they all do for fun if I take too long of a break. If I hollar they settle down fast. About 5-8 months she chewed everything she could pick up in her mouth. She just stopped doing it one day and never since. We went through alot of shoes those month. LOL
She's very willing, easy to train and gives it 150% everytime. I swear she wants to beat the race horses during training. She tries harder than they do sometimes, she can pass a 1 mile moderate gallop or light breeze no problem. LOL I love her.
She loves food, loves life and loves her people. She needs to be the first in the house to give it a quick scope and the first out the door. I picked up my keys once and she blew out the screen door and got in the bed of the truck :yikes: happy as can be, the others just sat and waited for me to open the broken screen door. LOL
I fostered 5 Mals that were Academy rejects, they were american bred. Good dogs and they tought me alot, most their problems were training related. JMO. I just prefered to have the best of the best from the best stud and bitch .. that led me to Belgium.
If I had to rate all three of my dogs with hardness and attitude, Granduer would be number 1 Sara 2 and Nemos 3. Nemos mostly because he's hard headed and stubborn. Sara because she's a quick repetitive thinker with repetitive motions. Granduer with her seriousness and spirts of radicalness. And to be honest, of all three of these dogs, the Pit Bull would be the best for a novice to train. JMO.
Thanks for the nice comments.
