Got my handbooks today and they have around 50 or so commonly ordered shots and drinks that I imagine will be helpful to have memorized, since I would like to move into some bartending shifts as well.

Too bad I can't make this a hands-on learning! :rofl1:

It also hit me...I really am going back into the food business...sidework, bottom of the ladder, aprons and non-slip shoes...oy vey!

Good luck with that. I used to volunteer bartend at my American Legion, but thankfully the only thing ordered there other than beer was a something and something (seven and seven, etc.)

But think of ALL the money you'll make in tips!!!

Keens makes some AWESOME non-slip shoes. I walk Ella in mine all the time.

And ew@ sidework. I HATED that crap. It always takes FOREVER to do!

I would love a pair of Keens, but they have to be either black or white...and not $120 right now...I'm going to just go to Payless and get some standard plain non-slip ones for the time being.

Now I just have to figure out what to do with Demon Dog...

You will do great as a bartender Zoom. You have the right personality and certianly the right "look" to make a ton of dough. I bartended in college and no matter how fast, accurate and 'fun' I was, I could never make as much as the hot chicks. LOL

Always take care of your regulars (well the ones that tip well) FIRST. Always. Also, put a little salt on the napkin/coaster before you serve anything in a glass that will sweat. The salt keeps the napkin/coaster from sticking to the glass. Just one of those little things that gets you a extra buck.

Have fun with the drunken fools that order the big fancy call drinks. Make it with the well booze and see if they can tell the difference. LOL The place I worked paid us a bonus based on how much well vs. call booze we used. So, the less call booze used, the better. If the person ordering was rude, drunk or I did not like them for any other reason, got well booze. Unless of course they watched me make it. I NEVER got called out on it.

:lol-sign:

"Call" is the higher-end, name brand stuff like Tanqueray, Jack Daniels, Captain Morgan, Absolut. "Well" is generally McCormicks and tastes just as cheap as it is...but works great for mixing.

Thanks for the vote of confidence everyone...I already knew the napkin trick, since I do this when I go out to eat anyway. Now I just have to show that they should let me cross train behind the bar and not just keep me on the floor.

You'll do great! Just remember I know the difference between call and well booze! As for the demon dog...I agree with the concrete cage.....

I agree with Puck. You'll do fine. And I bet the tips will be awesome. Bartenders here have to take a "serving it right" course. Do you have to do anything like that?

And I love gin and tonics with Bombay. Just in case anyone was curious :p

That means you would actually have to come visit me in order for me to even TRY and slide one over on you!

I won't be behind the bar for quite some time...I'm at the bottom of the ladder right now and need to work my way up. But that'll give me time to learn (and try) some of the 99 beers on the wall...I've gotten to sample some of them...I love the training I've been doing! :D We've gotten to try most of the menu already and at least one beer from each of the categories (amber, bock, lager, ale, IPA, cream, etc)

And yes, I do have to take a RAT--Responsible Alcohol (serving) Test.

Well fine then for my 21st birthday I will have to have everybody go to Kansas. :p
