The same way a big dog attacks.. with their teeth...? Obviously there isn't a huge worry about Bamm being injured, but Amber doesn't want him to develop full-blown dog aggression, and he's already very reactive. Incidents like this only set back their training.
Exactly

I have some words for her, and I assure you, they have nothing to do with a slur on her race. In fact, they have nothing to do with her race at all and only what an absolute idiot she is. And the food they feed, I can insult her on that, too, because I'm a snob about food.:popcorn:
HAHA... ya... oh and apparently her Chihuahua is a showdog... uh huh
I saw her again last night. I was outside with Bamm and talking to Jon and our groundskeeper, Kevin. She came out and snubbed her nose up at me as she walked by... what a.... (insert choice word here). Kevin did say that he'll say something to her, but I doubt it'll make a difference. I may just have to honestly call animal control anytime I see their dogs out. Oh and Jon is moving out on Friday... PARTY AT MY PLACE!!!

Instead of lemon in water you should soak a gently pounded chilli in water over night. Put that in a spray bottle. This will work for both humans and dogs and is more affective.
That sounds like a really good idea too. What kind of chilli should I use or does it not matter?

Oh there are ways to deal with people like this....

NO owners around, dogs running loose.... put your dog in the apt.
Go outside and get their dog, bring it to animal control.
Its a stray, let them pay to get the dog out, and I would keep
doing it until they smarten up or move out.
I am surprise a landlord would not do something about this...
Between the chi being dog aggresive and them being off leash
I doubt she picks up their poop either?

If you want me to come visit I have not one but TWO I can give you. They've been in the fridge for a month now, and while still will burn your tongue off, probably aren't fit to eat, and their presence has been making me nervous about abandoning any of my food when my dad is around. I managed to keep them out of my soup, a roast we had a few days ago, and a salad... not sure if he's forgotten them or has been waiting until I'm not watching him so closely to sneak them into something.

Sweet sounds like a great idea. Now I just need a good squirt bottle.

I got a 97 cent water bottle from wal mart and I now carry it on all walks... I only put water in it, and I keep it on the 'jet' setting and it has WORKED wonders !!
The off leash dogs charging my dogs have made my dogs reactive on leash, walking around my house :( its extremly frustrating!

I hook the handle in my pocket and walk as normal. I try to fill it with cold water before I walk, its more shocking and surprising IMO. Missy also likes to drink from it when I put it on the spray setting - and yes I used it on her when she was going ballistic and dragging me down the sidewalk because of a dog who's tie-out reaches the sidewalk (that's another story I guess) I've yet to meet a dog that has still approached... my only problem now is I am SO tempted to squirt kids and owners!! :p

I know exactly what you are going through.

We have a neighbor who has two Westies who run loose. He won't even come outside with them sometimes. He lives on the third floor and will stand outside his door while his dogs are running loose. Anytime they see someone they run and jump on them because they want attention (thankfully, they are friendly). I've keep them from getting hit in the parking lot twice now.

Then, when he comes to get his dogs because they won't listen he never says anything. Just grabs his dogs by their neck, yells at them and gives you a dirty look.

Ughhhhh...why do people have to be so irresponsible!?

I have to start carrying something to protect myself too, because there is some frikken brindle MASTIFF that's been coming over to our neighborhood from somewhere over the hill and through the trees. I saw him/her yesterday when I was out walking with my dogs on the gravel trail; we were heading homeward. He/she was a distance away, so we just stood there and waited for him/her to leave. When I didn't see him/her anymore we continued home. Then I noticed him/her on the hill still a good distance away just sitting there watching us. I could tell he/she had a collar and tags on because I could see the tags reflecting the sun.

But I don't know if that dog is friendly or not. And even if the dog is dog friendly, he/she may not be small dog friendly, especially to small dogs who will act like stupidheads when a challenge is there. Then of course Daisy would launch herself into the fray to protect Benji, and that wouldn't be good.

Stupid irresponsible people.

YOU should ask yourself what did you do when the chi came up..play it back in slow motion in your mind. Now how can you change it...was the chi fast or was there stiff legging and macho bull going on, that gives you an edge if it is. SOme dogs attack like stealth others are more bluff. I think the lemon juice and water a wonderful idea, it would burn but not do long time harm, would not scare bam, and would once again, show BAM that you are in control, and he could laff at the squirt literally when he sees what a piddly amount of effort on your part stops the troubles. I am sorry he got bit, and i hope it isn't a puncture, those must be watched carefully. Practice with a squirt gun, get a good one. Rock on wonderful idea. FOr a mastiff i would want something a lot stronger. but a chi? pppffft teach it a lesson it won't forget.

The chi came running fast as soon as she saw him. The other dog did more of the stiff legged, macho bull thing.

Luckily the bite to Bamm didn't puncture... though I think when he got a bite on the Chi, he may have broke skin. She's such a small fragile thing that I don't think it would take much of a bite from him to tear skin. I couldn't glance at her long enough to see if she was bleeding since it all kind of happened so fast.

people like these dogs owners realy **** me off, there the kind that give all small dog owners bad names, thinkging that its CUTE and OK for their dogs to behave that way.

call AC EVERYTIME you see them out without a leash and have them come picj up the stray dogs.
if ac wont come out go out leash em and take them to ac, found 2 stray dogs running round one seems to be VERY dog agressive...
after a few times of paying to bail them out the peoplw will either get a clue OR just decide to leave them there, either way itll be better for the dog.

and if the chihuahua was a "show dog" it wouldnt be outside without a leash...an intact show female is worth too much to take that risk...

Ya, that's what I thought... plus, I'll be perfectly honest... she doesn't look all that great as far as conformation is concerned. I personally don't think she's a show dog. That's just what her owners said. When I asked what shows they've done and if she has any points they couldn't tell me.

IT does happen fast...way too fast.
haha isn't that the truth. See when I talked to the other lady (not the one I got in an argument with) a few days prior to this incident she told me that the dogs don't always go after other dogs and that 9 out of 10 times they come back if they're called... uh huh... what she fails to realize is it's that 10th time that is the reason there's a leash law.

We had a 'show dog german shepherd' that kept terrorizing our on leash dog aggressive GSD mix. One day the fight escalated and the GSD ended up in the emergency vet. :(

Stupid people. You'd be surprised... I hear this on other forums where people get upset when a reactive/dog aggressive dog ON A LEASH attacks or bites at their 'offleash but friendly' dog. How dare those owners bring their dog out there while following the law and being as safe as possible where they illegally let their dogs roam.

Idiots.

My father kicked a dog that came charging and snapping at nikki once while his owners watched. Sure enough they yelled at us, but c'mon... if your dog was on a leash this wouldn't have happened. I don't care how 'friendly' your dog is, but if its offleash its your fault.

Definitely report them.

Ya I don't think I'll understand that one. People have come up to me before when I'm out for a walk with Bamm wanting to pet him. Honestly... I don't really want people in my neck of the woods petting him because I live in the ghetto and Bamm senses when I feel uncomfortable with these people. I just tell them, "No, he's not really all that friendly with strangers." Then I get the whole, "Well how dare you bring an aggressive dog out in public, yada yada yada, you should keep your dog inside or put him down etc etc."

Thing is, my dog is NOT aggressive. He's ON a leash. Even if he WAS aggressive he's STILL on a leash and I have control of the situation. I'm not going to **** my dog to never getting to experience the enjoyment of going outside just because he's reactive with other dogs. Also, he's not unfriendly with other people. It's just when men approach me, which happens a lot in the kind of neighborhood I live in. They make me nervous and Bamm can feel that and will growl at them.

Ugh... I can't believe how rude/idiotic/lame the Chi owner is. She doesn't deserve to own any dogs, especially since they are going to get killed by a car or a dog. D:< AND she called you white trash?! Forget kicking the dogs. I would have kicked her... wind-mill kicked her... in the face!

I hate that anyone feels that their dogs are "superior" to other dogs, and should magically have permission to roam off-leash. Whether that's because the dogs are tiny, the dogs are "friendly" (aka rude, hyper, pushy, 6 months old), the dogs are "obedient", the dogs are old, whatever. It enfuriates me! Once, I was walking Gonzo, and a snarling, yapping Yorkie bolted out of a garage. I tried to simply walk away, but he chased us and was going straight for Gonzo. Even though Gonzo loves little dogs, I could tell the Yorkie meant business, so I quickly picked the dog up by it's scruff and walked down the driveway. A man was idly sitting in the garage. I told him to come get his rat. ; )

that sucks about your neighbors. I would have kicked the dogs too. Punted them, actually. Though really, it's the owners fault. Maybe you can drop kick them.

There are several people on my street that let their dogs wander leash-free. One is a boxer, and while I am sure he is a very nice dog, Blossom is very very leash aggressive and it has come to the point where I can't walk Blossom in my neighborhood anymore. Stupid owners. :( She's actually a pleasure to walk, too. Aside from leash aggression, that is.

There is one exception to the on leash rule. Its an ooolllldddd black lab that lives a few blocks away from me, and his owners own a hardware store in town. This dog sleeps outside of the hardware store, or under the counter all day while he is at work, and I've only seen him get up and walk once, and that was to move from laying in front of the door to behind a chair.

I talk to him and pet him when I'm not with Ozzy, and he is the sweetest thing. He must be fifteen or sixteen years old!
