Hi there,
I have a lab mix about 1 year old. The last few days Ive been cleaning goop from the corner and around his eye several times a day. Could this be just a cold or something I should bring him to the vet for?
Thanks
Christy

What color is the goop? Are the eyes red or swollen? If so, or if there is a yellow or green discharge than your dog may have an eye infection that you should get checked out..but if its clear or even a little whitish..I wouldn't worry..I wipe my dog's eyes several times a day as well...its quite normal. Its a way for them to clean their eyes. They don't wash their faces like we do lol

Compared to searching for 'treats' in a cat box, or like mine, "calf pudding" (they just love that rich, gloopy poop from the baby calves [shudder-gag] ) cleaning each other's faces is pretty tame, lol!

My Lab/Chow mix has the same problem, especially her left eye right now. She will get swellings around her eye that are filled with a bloody-pus mixture (gross, I know...sorry). It is clearing up at the moment. I am assuming this is allergies as she itches ALL THE TIME...even on Prednisone and Benadryl.
