I was watching GMA this morn and this weeks topic is on race
I am so glad someone is finally bringing this to americas attintion!
I never know if its ok to say some things..
I no the N word is a No No but what about saying Black?

ie
If I was trying to point someone to go to someone that can help them further and it happends to be a african american am I suppose to say (if I am in a crowed place) Go ask that woman over there and they are like which one and I say that black lady or am I suppose to say that african american lady??

IDK I think some races take things to offensively.
I wouldnt care if someone called me a cracker or whitey..
I mean Im not saying calling someone the N word or a gook or whatever is ok but IDK...
Anyone else feel the same??

I don't get it.. they call each other the N-word but if someone else calls them that their automatically called racist.. doesn't make any sense.

If I was trying to point someone to go to someone that can help them further and it happends to be a african american am I suppose to say (if I am in a crowed place) Go ask that woman over there and they are like which one and I say that black lady or am I suppose to say that african american lady??
Why would you have to put "black" or "african american" in what you were saying? Why wouldn't you just say.. "see that lady over there in the red coat"?

This is what I love about kids.. they don't see color. I wish we were ALL like that.

The movie that came to mind when I read your thread was "The Human Stain". Anthony Hopkins and Nicole Kidman are in it. Its an excellent movie that deals with race.

I just use the term black to describe them. Its a pretty general term that they dont seem to be offended with too much.

And I agree it is ridiculous when they call each other niggas but if a white person says it - that white boy is in for a thorough butt whooping! Just plain dumb. Dont even get me started on the Ebonics thing either.

Iwould use whatever made you the most comfortable. If they are offended apologize and ask them what they prefer and make sure you remember it in the future.

In November Dr. Phil had a show were he roomed two racists together, one was a skinhead that hated blacks, and the other was a black woman that hated all whites.

Well when they made the skinhead dress like a black -makeup and all - and the skinhead revealed that he was doing this for the dr.phil show and you could see those other two black guys were not one bit impressed - but they still treated the guy with respect.

IDK I just feel like the majority of black people dont like white people..
Like when I lived in a mostly black community (the black girls) were ALWAYS rude to me! One slammed my head in the white board while I was wrighting something FOR NO REASON!! (The teach had just left the room)
All the other students were like why did you do that?
She was just like I dont like her..

Use whatever you like. Black, african american, alternate skin colored, whatever. People need to stop being so PC now a days. It's ridiculous.

Black. I have a friend who gets absolutely enraged if someone calls her an african american- she starts her "I never lived in africa" speech.

I think the whole race thing goes both ways. White communities that don't like black people, black comminuties that don't like white people. I can't believe the looks my bf and I get when we go out. He's black I'm white people act like it's an abomination for us to be together. The worst reactions seem to come from black women. I don't get it.

I personally don't like the term African American . We don't call any other nationalities French American or English American . If so , I know many African Americans who are white. Years ago it was Negroid or Colored. I still can't used to refer to anyone as Black/white/brown or yellow !

Actually, they do see colors, but they will say 'black woman' without any afterthought. That's the main difference really... children are aware of differences but don't see them as being wrong or right... They say what they see, and don't mean anything ill by it. We are the ones that just second guess everything.

Wonder what people will be called 20 years from now with all the mixed races. Maybe we will all become " people " again .

IDK I think alot of the racism is comes from the older age when it was "ok" to be racist...parents taught their kids (our parents/grandparents) that there WAS a huge differnce in white and black, they were lower than us..
I think after a few generations go by (about my childs grandchilden) alot of it will stop..
Who knows?? It might get worse!! :yikes:
