I've been away from this board for awhile. Our Wheaten, Darby, is a year and a half old now, and we're seriously contemplating a 2nd dog. Any suggestions on breeds that would get along well with a Wheaten?
Darby is female, friendly to a fault with friends and strangers alike (think Wheaten Greetin'), friendly with other dogs but a little on the submissive side, not food or toy agressive at all (you could snatch her favorite treat right from her mouth and she'd not object) and just generally a normal Wheaten.
How is it best to pair dogs? Is having dogs with similar personalities better? Or would it be better to get a calmer dog to complement the crazy Wheaten? Should the 2nd be a male, a female, or won't it matter if both are spayed/neutered?
We're thinking of a smaller breed, not tiny, but smaller than a Wheaten. In the 10-20 pound range. We'd prefer to stick with one of the breeds that is supposed to be better for allergy sufferers. That was one thing that originall led us to a Wheaten, and we've had no allergy issues.
One that keeps coming up is a Westie. Any feel for how a typical Westie would get along with a typical Wheaten? Is having two different Terriers just asking for trouble?
Any other suggestions for a Wheaten playmate?
