time for men with chain saws.maybe the neighbors will help...AAron made some money with his chain saw, in fact i bought it for him and he went door to door taking down the simple stuff when our storm hit, managed to make enuff to pay for the chainsaw with some left over...and you can get an ice chest to store her food in while she brings it with her..hope it gets back on soon!
smkie... where do you live??

Indiana here... in the mid-90's with heat index of 105.

the dog days of summer are the hottest of the year. why that phrase? is it because it makes people wanna pant and slurp up gallons of water?!

EliNHunter try to stay cool somehow, hang out at the mall or a local store during the hottest time of the day. I'm sure your mom will figure out what's the best solution, once she calms down.

Grammy's got power!!

As of 5:30 this morning!!! She's trying to log onto her computer right now and it's being very sluggish. Must be the heat as it's up into the 90's again today and supposed to be worse tomorrow!!!

they said worse today then yesterday...i am going out one time and one time only..last night on the news they were talking about the summer that killed 100 people in KC..my grandmother was one of them. That was 1980. It was a tragedy where i worked as well. I hope this summer isn't going to be repeat. IT really isn't suppose to be this hot yet.

The news said it's going to go up to 100 degrees tomorrow, it may feel like 110. Today it's supposed to go up to 91...I'm supposed to walk my neighbor's dog on Saturdays but no way Jose am I doing it today!! I've been sweating like a pig the last couple of weeks while exercising that little thing, and that's in 80 degree weather.

Missouri the worst part is she was canning..with no ac, my grandfather didn't believe in it..she laid down her spoon, laid down on the sofa and died. Old lady Crowthers...the old woman with the multitude of dogs died that summer as well. She came down to the kennels on sundays as a promise to his wife when she died, to see to things so to speak..mostly she ran a load or two of wash and cooked a sunday dinner. Kept that promise for 13 years too...she was feeding her dogs when she died. i pray we are not in for another one like that..this is our peak time, the last two weeks of July the first two weeks of august. They said on the news last night that heat kills more people then all the other weather combined. My mom won't turn the ac on until it is past unbearable, even tho she is having respitory problems and wont listen to my nagging to put it on and keep it on. sigh.

smkie, that's so sad. The things we take for granted -- like air conditioning. In Indianapolis they have a program called the Fan Club. Where you can donate to a TV station and they deliver fans to the elderly and shut-ins in the heat. Missouri is a very hot and humid state...

Hi again !!!! The 'puter is a little faster now !!!! Boy was I glad to get the AC back on and the refrig humming away.!!!! I'm on a well, so had no water either. So now the washer is churning away and Grammy's cool !!! Tomorrow is supposed to be a real doozy !!!! Very high humidity with heat index 105 -110 .By the way, the neighor DID remove the tree !!! My trellis broke, so my wistery vine's down and it did break the glass on my patio table. sigh ! But it could have been worse. I just wish the insurace companies would have a scale. With $500 deductable , doesn't help me a bit !

be careful they don't jump your rates before you make your claim..they did that to me when i reported a limb coming thru the roof making it leak..it would have been cheaper in the long run to pay for it myself..dirty dog insurance people..wait that is an insult to my dog..we had to go to another company for coverage...thumbs up for good neighbors!

sucks doesn't it? you should have been able to..oh yeah its the same as your deuctable, mine was about 1500 worth of damage. Gg has that big old oak in front of her house, and her house is down hill from that tree. About a hectiacare, still if it fell it would go right thru those 14 ft glass windows. Fortunatly my parents built that house and my dad was a fanatic for sturdy. The wood in the attic is even some kind you can't get anymore that doesn't burn easily. They got all the wood for the house in the 1951 flood. Pulled it out of the river hauled it home scraped the mud out of it (gg of course) there are i think it is called parquee where 5 boards go one way and the next the opposite so it has a checkerboard appearence. It really is a palace to me. Her kitchen is over 60 ft long, runs the length of the house almost..she wanted it that way and overlooks nothing but woods. Sits high on a hill over them so you are almost eye level with the tops of the trees. It looks like a jungle looming over the fence. Want to see pics? not everybody had parents build their own house all by themselves with no help.
i forgot to add that dad put that floor down and GG picked it right up again and did it right..Dad had big gaps and didn't look right, GG is a perfectionist. The molding to all the windows was sanded down by hand and feel like silk. I really admire her for that..she raised a two year old in it as they built it, starting with one room finished.

Well I don't think it got up into the nineties today...we got a little rain and it was cool enough to open the windows for a few hours. Now we have the air conditioning back on and just got back from walking May with my Mom. It's still hot enough outside to sweat a little.....my Mom wants to go to a waterpark tomorrow since it's gonna be so hot...I wish we had a pool!!
