Hiya all, well our Maxy boy is doing splendidly on his Glucosamine for his arthritis. His mobility has increased ten fold and he seems to have a new lease of movement life lol.

Aside from that is there anything else that we can give him? I've heard some say fish oil tablets and sasha's blend? I don't know what that is though.

Any other ideas would be much appreciated. As I said he is a much more mobile, and comfortable boy, its great to see :)

Thanks in advance

I give mine MSM w/glucosamine. THe Walmart brand, seems to do the trick. I also supplement with Salmon Oil and Flaxseed Oil. Some dogs can't tolerate the flaxseed I'm told, upset tummy's..but oils are great.

For my dog with arthritis, I massage her every day with arnica gel. It works great and she seems to like it. I've tried it on myself and it works well.

I have heard different views... but for my boxer, I seen results in days...

I love Missing Link Joint Formula.... my boxer had joint and arthitis, he was limping and so on. I got him on that and within days...he never limped again.

I would combine his kibble with 3 tablespoons of Missing link, and at least 500mg of (people) vit. C, Omega 3 fish oil and a little bit of wet food. It worked so fast. It worked wonders on him.
Just my experience....

The active ingredient in the Missing Link Joint formula is glucosamine, which the original poster is already giving the dog. I'd rather recommend a concentrated version instead of something that's diluted with a lot of flax etc.

Personally I'd rather try removing any kind of grains from the diet and see if it adds to the improvement, such as by feeding a grain-free kibble.

Wild salmon oil or another good quality fish oil would be a better addition than flax oil or seed as well.

Yucca (as tincture or high-quality powder) acts anti inflammatory and promotes blood flow as well as tissue repair.

Fido-Wobenzym is an enzyme supplement could also be beneficial, it's the dog version of a human supplement that has been extensively tested on humans as well as dogs. Dr. Beverly Chappel, DVM has done a double blind, placebo-controlled study on Wobenzym use in 60 arthritic dogs and all of them had marked improvements. It's 100% natural and has no negative side effects.

You also might want to discuss Adequan injections with your vet for later use. A friend of mine has had great results with it in her dogs, both had to have surgery to repair elbow dysplasia and one of them has arthritis on top of that.

They also have Missing Link,(with joint formula), Vet formula all in one...
Again, I knew there would be disagreements, but I just know what I saw with my dog and the clients dogs....(a client is actually the one who got me hooked.) I tried soooo many things, people and animal meds....., nothing worked, this worked within days.....

Again, that just may be my dog and the other dogs I have seen, but I will always use that in the future, because it worked for ME. Always look around and try different methods. Again, I was just telling you of my experience... my boxer NEVER limped again after that, ever. So to me it worked......

But, I will also say, I am NOT a nutrition expert on here either. See what works for your dog, and take other advice.
Take care, Amy

Thanks again :). I have many more choices to consider as well now.

Also gaining knowledge is the best way to make a choice, and you've all given me those options. I really appreciate it. I know each dog is different, and some things might not work for others :) At the moment, the improvement for Max has been fantastic, so I guess I just wanna see if I can improve some more.

I will do some more investigating, now that I'm armed with a bit more info heh

Thanks to everyone that has replied :)

Glucosamine and my dog--I wonder about it

About a year ago the after being on Deramaxx and not much hope from my old vet another vet put my dog on Corta-rx. It did wonders for her in 2 days. About a month ago she started limping when she got up and had trouble getting up. The limp went away after a few steps but I saw somethiing was wrong so I went back to the old vet. I showed him the Corta-rx and he said it was ok but Glucosmine,1000 grams a day, and Deramaxx would help her. Again with the Deramaxx. So I let the second vet do x-rays and checkup. Not much showed up on the x-rays, no different from a year ago and he also said the Glucosamine would be better. After 5 days she has showed some improvement so 3 days ago I put her on 25 grams of Deramaxx a day. She does seem better at times and other times she just looks like she doesn't feel good. She eats but not like she used to and she sleeps a lot more. I don't want to run back to the vet again. If a dog is not too bad Corta-rx is great. I can't find anything bad on Glucosamine except they have to stay on it forever once you start it. Deramaxx is another thing. I just don't trust it and I'm going to start skipping a day and see if she perks up. Not much we can do but give them care and try to make it easy on them. I'm tempted to go back on the Corta-rx for a week. People can be over medicated maybe dogs can to.

There are so many glucosamine products on the market. If you have to start adding other products into the mix, I wonder how good these products are. I use liquid glucosamine Syn Flex for my dogs. It has not only a high dosage of glucosamine but 12 other ingredients so there is no need to buy other supplements. It truly works.
