Although it could be the meds you are taking, it may be PCOS (Poly-cystic ovary syndrome) or possibly hypo-thyroidism. One of my friends has PCOS and she gets a really painful period only once every 5 or 6 months. My mum has hypo-thyroidism and she often finds herself weak and listless. Hypo-thyroidism can also cause irregular or absent periods. It has TENTATIVELY been suggested that the thyroid gland and bipolar disorder are linked in some way. This is only a theory at the moment though.

But PLEASE, PLEASE talk to your doctor. We all want you to get better :) . A professional opinion is better than any speculation any day.

I'd guess its jsut the depo messing up your period.

How long have you been on the bipolar meds and what are you taking? A lot of psych meds will work great for a while and then not so great. You may get bad side effects or it jsut doesn't work to hottly anymore.

Whatever is wrong you need to take your bc a little nmroe seriouesly. Both not waiting after the shot and the bipolar meds can be bad for a baby. I'm shocked they didn't explain that to you earlier-but that also may be why they gave you depo.

My friend is bipolar. This is the best advice I can give after watching/helping him with his struggle.

Find someone who is really really good at treating what you got. Then stick with that person. I don't know if you've already tried all the meds out there but if you haven't then maybe its time to try a different one. I'm told being on the right one makes a night and day difference.

Had your dr appt yet? How'd it go?
I've been on depo 6ish years. Spotted for the first year, haven't had a period in 5. Had a bone scan and it isn't causing any adverse side effects. Weight gain isn't a a side effect. Increased appetite is. If you don't know you should be watching that, it's mighty easy to gain weight. I gained 20 pounds in university, and while it was stress from school, over eating wasn't helping. I re read all the symptoms, and started thinking about snacks. Got it under control.

i was on depo.
i did more than spot.. i was basically on my period all the time
i gained 53lbs
and my depression got horrible!
same thing happened to me when I went on it. They gave me medication to stop the bleeding but that didn't work either. I have depression and bipolar as well but unfortunetely haven't taken my meds in awhile and need to go get new prescriptions from another doctor.

Wow, I'm different. On depo, I had no side effects other than a tiny weight gain, and it actually helped with my bipolar disorder!

Right now, I'm feeling the same way you are dixie. Tired all the time, hungry all the time. I've been avoiding going to school because of it. Not good.

What meds are you taking? I'm personally on 900mg of Lithium. I'll probably be taking more once I see my doc again. My anxiety is getting HORRIBLE.

Also, with depo you shoud not be getting a period at all. Spotting is normal. Are you making sure you get your shots when you're scheduled to? If you wait too long, the birth control because ineffective and you've got a chance of being pregnant.
