Darn it. The morning sickness is coming back although at least I don't feel sick all day.... I just throw up once in the morning. I am exhausted but every night at 3:30 am I wake up and can't get back to sleep for an hour or so. I am so tired.

Now I am getting a cold. I was up most of last night coughing. I feel like death warmed over. I can't afford to get a cold right now. I can't take anything for it either. I need to find some home remedies for coughs. any suggestions? I am also not sure if I can even use a vapo rub or anything because of the medicated stuff in it. What can I use that has absolutey no medicinal extras in it?

Probably chicken soup and plenty of fruit and juice is your best bet right now, Tanya.

Call your ob/gyn's office and ask about using Vicks or any other cold remedy. They can probably give you a list of things (short, no doubt) of things that are safe to use.

If you house is dry from the heat being on, a humdifier at least in your bedroom will help put some moisture in the air and may help. I found these tips on a website:

Drink lots of water. Water helps loosen phlegm and soothe an irritated throat. Also try drinking hot tea or hot water with honey and/or lemon juice in it. Do not give honey to children younger than 1 year of age.

Cough drops can soothe an irritated throat.

Elevate your head with extra pillows at night to ease a dry cough.

Can you give your doctor a call to see if he can give you something? I hope you feel better soon.

I can't help with the cough, other than to suggest a humidifier like others have done, but...........

I have heard there are concerns for pregnant women to eat honey and peanuts. (gypsy's post)
Honey due to some sort of spores (and none for babies up to one year old), and peanuts because it increases the risk of baby having a severe peanut alergy.
You can research because I am not going to swear to any accuracy, this was the rules my mother made me follow years ago.......:)

See now I heard the opposite. Peanuts were a suggested snack because they pack a lot of protein especially if you are experiencing morning sickness. I heard that exposing them in the womb has no ill effects and can actually help prevent them from developing an allergy. but I have heard that no honey for a child under 1.

It wasn't on my list of foods to avoid from the Dr and it was pretty detailed. BUT I don't eat much honey anyway just a little in my tea when I am not feeling well.

I feel terrible right now and will be heading to bed very shortly. My morning sickness is back too but it's only in the morning and I don't feel bad the entire day. but I did get sick after eating my first meal today and there was some blood in it. I called the Dr's office just to check that it was OK. The nurse said it was likely that the blood is just from the rough time my digestive system has been having.... especially with all the throwing up.... there are likely some small tears in my esophagus (sp?) and the cough is probably tearing up my throat a bit. She told me just to keep a look out and if blood becomes a consistent thing to call them again right away but for now not to worry about it.

I really think I am going to have to cut down on my hours at work for a little while. 5 days a week is just too much for me right now. Everyday I am more and more tired and feel worse each day until I can sleep for hours and hours and hours.

the first trimester can be a challenge--I hope you feel better soon! I still say peppermint--lifesavers, gum, whatever--it worked for me!

LOL I don't have time. It happens as soon as I open my eyes in the morning lol. After that I am fine...except now I have this cold. I think the coughing is what is really triggering the vomiting right now though.

I did a quick search about the peanuts, because it got me thinking too. My doctor never mentioned anything to me either, and I even breast fed my last baby. (but I listened to my mommy just to keep her happy)

It looks as though it is connected to you, your partner, or close family member having any other type of allergy....asthma, hayfever..etc
Here are two sites that I found that mentions this, one is from the BBC news.

You may want to at least bring up the subject with your doc, and of course peanut butter would be out too.

When I was preggo I was told that Tylenyol (daytime) products were safe for me. That might be the case for someone esle. Your best bet is to contact your OBYN. They can factor in any medical history you & your family has. Even some non-medicated remedies might be iffy so be careful.

I actually went through the "kit" I got at the OBGYN and found a list of medicine products that are safe to take while pregnant. Thank goodness there are cold remedies listed on there. I am going to call them to make sure that vicks vapo rub is safe. if it is I am going to have a nice warm bath and melt some vicks in it. We are also going to get a humidifier. I really think that is making it worse. I woke up last night and just felt dry from head to toe. if I hadn't been so tired I would have gone into the bathroom and turned on the hot water and just breathed in the steam.

ACooper, luckily none of us (both sides of the family) have any allergies to anything other than environmental. Dust, ragweed... that sort of thing. We did go over allergies with the Dr in my initial visit when I had to fill out a bunch of forms. They didn't have any concerns about foods or medicine because neither side of the family has any history of food or medicinal allergies. They did recommend peanuts and/or peanut butter because I am unable to stomach chicken right now and I really need protien lol.

thank you for those sites. Very interesting read and I will definately keep those in mind.
