German Sheperd, best food for breed?

Hie everyone!!!

I'm new here but I have just one little question that I hope some of you will be able to answer....

In summer 2007, I plan on getting a German Sheperd pup and since I'm dedicated on my pup being has healthy has possible, I'm doing a big research on the best dog food for the breed.... Because I know some breeds need specific care, (I think German Sherperds are one of them), I want to buy the best food possible for him, (or her!!)....

Also, I've noticed that no one is talking about the Wellness brand no were!!
Are they out of businnes??? I used to love there food for my cat! Until they got pretty sick off of one bag.... But I still like that brand, it was probably just a bad bag....

Hi Jaïa, welcome to Chazhound.

There is really no such thing as a one "best food" or "best brand", since even dogs of the same breed may react completely different to the same food. I hope this link will help you learn more:

As for Old Mother Hubbard/Wellness: they are still in business, but took on an investment partner and changed their formulations, which was a downgrade and the food is no longer what it used to be. You can get better quality products for less money.

I've heard that Innova is a great food for German Shepards if you want a specific answer. They make a large breed puppy formula, but their regular adult formula meets the needs of a large breed pup too.

But all dogs are different.
